Muzzy Big Block????
Anyone have any experience with Muzzy's Big Block for the 12???
http://www.muzzys.com/ZX-12_87mm/index.html
I ran a 9.09 on fri nite so things were going fine, but a few passes later it started making a tikkee-tikkee-tickee noise... hmmmmm.....
I cut the oil filter apart and didn't see any obvious junk, so now it's now at the builders for a little diagnostic work on Monday. If he needs to get into it up to his elbows... hmmmmm.... maybe a few more cc's, bump up the compression???

Dude my post got cut off!
Did you listen at the valve train? Maybe a valve spring broke, cam chain noise?, exhaust leak? I doubt there is anything major wrong. What were the stats on the 9.09? I wanted to go to HRP tonight with the cool air but some import car deal going on.

Alan,
Yep, exactly my words...
Lee gave it a good listen and wouldn't make a prediction as to the probable problem, (noise isn't too loud). Sat am Kevin gave it a listen and looked at the cut open filter and said whatever it is, we "got it in time", very minor junk, if any, in the filter.
Oh well, comes with territory...
Hey, look on the bright side, I'll be a Mr Camera/video man along with EZ, Chris, and Santana (the few, the proud, the guys w/their bikes in pieces)

Bahahahahahahahahahaaha,
Cowboy, it seems we went to to the same mechanics school!! That's my usual method; make another run and prolly it'll "fix itself" or it'll make itself more evident, like a rod end sticking out of the case. I'm hoping its minor; Mon-Tues they'll have it torn down.
Alan
the 9.09 was on a shitty 60', like 1.56-7. I was running 155-158's until Kerry came and videoed a pass and It was real clear that I was sliding the clutch out, not slamming it. Next pass (slamming out the clutch) was a 1.508 but I threw away the pass with a missed 3/4 shift (hit the limiter).
The 1.50 could have given me my 8.999... Oh well, its always something.

Dammit, Karl!! Hope it gets fixed by Saturday. I might have some extra parts for the head if you need them. I need to pull mine down and fix my oil pan tonite, too. Why does it always happen the week before a big race?!?

I'd definitely be checking the valvetrain first unless it's pretty obvious the sounds comes from below. Maybe one of the weldups is going south. Man, that does suck. If I had your money(or line of credit), I'd be springing for the big block and set of Carillos in a heartbeat!

Hope your motor is OK Karl, maybe there's something in the air... I ran 3 passes last night at Moroso and I'm pretty sure it spit a shim on the last pass - it backfired on the last shift and ticks from the topend. Good night though - 8.97 @ 160, 8.98 @ 159, 9.06 @ 158.
It's never backfired before that I know of, I hope all is well in there. Gonna pop the valve cover off tonite and see.

Got it tuned at Sabin's Thursday. Left it loaded up and straight to RRR on Friday. Before the map, I could just drop the clutch and GAS it. First pass was pretty good, so I stepped it up a lil and dropped it out at 7-8?? Mo Fo went directly vertical and I cracked the rear of the oil pan when it hit down. Now I know, huh?? Guess I need to work on that patented "snap-n-slide" now.... Going to take it down tomorrow or so and weld it up for the TXSO. At least, I hope I can....

The ZRX did spit a shim - #4 exhaust. It was sitting next to the spring luckily. Leakdown is unchanged, all plugs look good. Hope it doesn't make a habit of this.
I did the same thing to my oilpan a few months ago kawachan. I didn't have any trouble getting it fixed - thanks to Enos / TCC.

Cowboy,
I have hit the limiter plenty of times before with no problems...
maybe it just spit a bucket like ZRXD's did?
I'd almost be disappointed if the bike doesn't need to get torn down; then I'd miss the opportunity to go Big Block.

If it spit a shim you still have to pull the head(right??)and then you could just slip the block off and put the new block on also??Cummon man ,its only money.lol

I think on the 12 you need to pull the cams to replace a shim. On my ZRX you just need to pull the valve cover - took me 20 minutes
But I'm SURE Karl could think of a good reason to tear it down...

Yep, cams need to come out. I will prolly do the new block/pistons IF I don't need to come up with mega-bux to rapair whatever is causing the noise.
Muzzy has ONE big block kit in stock and the builder says he'll have it torn down tomorrow noon-ish with an assessment.. Depends on what he says: Vamos a ver..

Karl, I will be really suprised if your motor is damaged anywhere below the head. I could see the re-grind cams shaving themselves and and that could make some noise when ramping back on to the valve stem from full closed. Also a potential shim problem but its unlikely unless you are spraying it. The first motor you had was so bullet proof, I can't believe this one would F' up unless an incorrectly installed part finally let go. Who knows but you carry my theory that if it comes apart, it goes back together with more mods. DAMN I wanted you to hit an 8 on motor. That 1.50 60' would have got it there. 158 mph??? Your bike was making some serious power for your weight. Thats a 160-161mph pass with a "lighter" rider! Fastest all motor 12R I have seen yet! I bet you have a nice line of credit set up with Kevin now eh?

Carl,no-I haven't made one yet,8th mile thurs.night just to see if it will launch(I need to set up the clutch)to make sure it doesn't slip under both stages,it will be on the dyno to check air-fuel ratio, also need to see if the shinko will handle all this shit with the tire so far back.I will paint it with VHT the day before the shoot out and let it soak in by qualifying, damn,if it stays together,it should put on a good show, hope track conditions are gonna be good-hope the weather holds!!
