Schnitz new EFIR Timing retard box
Well...yall were right. Schnitz is producing a Electronically activated Timing Retard box for the 12R now.
Basically from what I gathered it plugs into the factory harness...wire up to a ground and 12V source...and then wire it up to your nitrous noid for activation.
Press the button (or however your noid is activated) and the Retard box goes into action. Seems to have adjustmets from 1deg retard to 16(i think)..and can ramp up the retard by various tenths of a second for a "scalable" timing retard.
Seems like a pretty slick box (if it works). I might have to get one of these. Pricey at $274 and some change....but this will allow me to put the mechanical advancer back on the bike and just retard the timing around 7 or so degrees on spray (for a net of -4 or 5). Sounds like the best of both worlds!

Does sound cool. How much timing does the PC3R let you take out? Could you take out 4 deg at 100%, and swap maps for motor/spray?

Nah..no link...however I was told the instructions were pretty much the same for the busa model as the 12 model.
its listed as teh EFIR13 on the site...the 12 model is the EFIR12.
I dunno what the limits of the PC3R are...I only have a PC3

So this would allow you to run your best non NOS map on the PCIIIr, and then on NOS retard the timing so the engine doesn't melt. If I understand correctly. This would not necesarily make the best horsepower on NOS as your best non NOS map isn't set for 100% fuel, but you could still get the benefit of NOS safely without sacrificing the normal non NOS performance. Is my understanding correct?

Yep....nearly the best of both worlds.
Basically you can run whatever map you choose (timing wise) and as soon as your nitrous solenoid fires...the box comes on and retards the timing X degrees.
Even has the ability to keep the retard "on" after you let off the button to make sure your timing doesnt jump back to +5 or whatever with nitrous still in the airbox.
Seems like a pretty nifty device...the lady at Schnitz said they would be ready to ship later this week.
Its on my list o' mods

I was told mine would be here this week, er I mean my "friends". He'll be running the bike in different classes on the same day so the box should be very helpful.

Just remember nitrous is not 100% safe and you'll be fine detonation is still possible and happens to everyone sooner or later so far so good but I know it will happen eventually even to me hehe.

Received my EFIR box today. Installation isn't going too great. The two wires going to the nitrous solenoid are always hot until horn is mashed and one grounds. The EFIR box needs +12v to activate. Since this box was meant to be used on a zx12r specifically and with nitrous, you'd think they would've offered some advice in the instructions.

That sucks. Is the dry kit from Schnitz? Can you reverse polarity on the solenoid/switch? Otherwise you're relay-bound.
I'll be rooting for you Ken - kick some Highlands butt You have more than one bottle for that baby?
Let me know how that turbo ZRX12 runs... has it been quicker than this?

Yowsah! That's bookin, Dean! I'm gonna give Schnitz a call today and see what's up. I still have a relay to wire yet for the nitrous cut off so maybe I can catch it off of there. Yeah, it's their dry shot I'm using.

That kinda sucks that Schnitz makes 2 'accessories' for the 12 that don't plug and play together - these 2 especially.
Man I am still smil-iscious over that run Kevin was there and got it on tape too I also went 161 - twice Good air, variable head/crosswind.

I don't think I'll do it, but if I did, I'd put it on the front bottom corner of the frame rail. Rules say you can't add ballast to the front suspension, plus I'd want to keep it as low as possible.

Yeah, power is only good if I can stay WOT. I think I will try playing with the progressive more, and gearing too, before resorting to weight. I just had to give YCIS some chit :P
