Nice Piston Prep!!

I really did like the 'ol ZX10 / ZX11 "slide to the side" cam followers. Made for easy valve adjustments.

Must be Doug Meyer's work.....WOW........Doesn't look like the crank was lightened and balanced from the pictures but then again i don't know much about ZX-11 motors.....Great prep work and i like the cleanlinest of the setup and how nice everything looked. Now i hope it run's like it looks and like the prep work that went into it !!! Dang, whoever did this motor knows a bit or two bout engine building.....

Yes Doug did the work for me since nobody knows that bike better than he does. It was the bike that Kawasaki gave to hime to set land speed records on..............and he did........... I know that the crank is stroked and I know that everthing was lightened and polished and knifer rods and flat slid carb and je pistons and blah blah 15:1 compression and muzzy cams and god ohly knows what else. Now I am not sure what it is now but Doug knows and he can tell us all. He is such a great guy and one of the smartest people I have ever met. And today he is a year older. HAPPY BIRTHDAY DOUG! Please write about my bike when you have time. As if I havent already asked you for enough. Thank you again. A shot of Patron for all and a toast to Doug on his birthday. cheers

that is sooooo awesome.

i like the standoffs to keep the bore down on the case without the head in place.

it looks like i can eat off that floor.

windowed sleeves.. nice.

i also see that that motor has the one-way clutch inside the case. what a whore..lol.. theres a few similarities between my 7-R motor and the 11 i see.

work of art. i bow to thee.

Very, Very nice! Might have to take a ride down to SA to see the legendary ZX-11.

I am not familiar with ZX 11 cylinder blocks, but is that one O-ringed?

Looks real nice. I see Falicon rods, Muzzy X something cams, probably 77mm purdy pistons in stock iron liners, don't see any o-rings. Going in a zx11, I assume?

The original build in 1997 had a polished and lightened crank, but since it had maybe 10,000 miles on it since then, evidence of a blown up clutch, and the detonation damage when Brenda was riding it, I elected to mag the crank. I found a spot that might evolve into a real crack. I would have run it but I did not want to take any chances with Brenda riding it on the street or The Mile, so I replaced it with a fresh stroker. The engine is the same 1140 cc., but I lowered the compression down to 13:1 (Bonneville spec was 15:1, no O-rings required). The pistons in the original build were Cosworths, the new ones are JE. With good gas on the street, race gas on the track, and careful attention to the timing she should have no problem.
Jim G. (Y2KZX12) did a great job repairing the head for her. He welded it up, replaced the seats, valves and springs. That head has a ton of work in it and it was important to keep it.
She is still using the airbox I built for the 41mm flatslide carbs and will continue using those.
Everything else is the same as when it dynoed 200 hp (countershaft) in 1999.
It was a lot of fun rebuilding it for Brenda and I was happy to do it. The parts felt very "familiar" to me as I worked on it. There are lots of little tweaks in there.....
Doug

Doug, how do you dyno countershaft hp? Is there a special engine dyno or something?

Thank you so much Doug! And Jim did such awsome work also. Thank you both for making it possible for me to ride this bike again. Getting close to startup just waiting on the gas tank to get back from paint.

Shane, the engine was dynoed on an engine dyno. Two of them, actually. I used to use the Stuska at Bob Wirth Racing in Hayward Ca and the last time I dynoed it, in 1999, it was on the Muzzy's Eddy Current setup. Until Dynojet perfected their electric absorbsion unit, there was no other way to do any real development, where you could hold the engine at full throttle an a given RPM for an undefinite length of time. I guess a lot of you have never seen a "real" dyno..........

I seem to recall seeing engine dyno's back when I read the car magazines in my early teens. But I haven't seen anything like that in a long time!

That sure is a nice looking motor! Doesn't look so old fashioned as you might think!

Here's a REAL dyno:

That's a 500 inch big block Chevy turning out 1200hp. You had to get used to walking in there.

The Cosworths are very good pistons, but the JE's are excellent as well. I'm guessing Bren's build will do about 185 RWHP.

I do not know how I came to be so blessed but it is the coolest thing I have ever known. No body could know what having this bike in my life has done for me. And at a time when I really needed something to care about and lift me out of a depression that was slowly killing me. I could not have dreamed of a more rewarding, positive , experience if I had tried. Thank you all so much for taking interest in my bike and helping me to feel more positive about my self. Now Doug,............you and Karl need to get busy so you can take that fastest zx12 title back from ace performance. Do yall need me to bring the chicken?
