a good starting platform would be to get a full exhaust (NOT a slip on), bmc air filters, take out the flies, and then get the thing tuned by a good, reputable tuner. ask around from guys in your area about who is good. be prepared to dish out about $200-$250. a good tune isn't cheap, and a cheap tune isn't good, but when its all dialed in, it will seem like a new bike, especially if you decide to throw in some adjustable cam sprockets at this time. once you have the engine running at its best, then start dealing with spockets. they are more of a give and take deal, where its either top end or acceleration and you have to find the happy middle ground. the engine stuff will make it stronger nearly everywhere.

If you get a Brock exhaust, his maps will work great. You might get a hair more performance with a custom map, but not much.
Your gearing will be dependant on your wheelbase. Depending on your riding style, gearing can make a bigger performance difference than the exhaust. For stock wheelbase, start by going to a 16T countershaft sprocket. You should also install a Speedohealer at the same time.
On the 08, removing the secondary plates is not as critical as on the 06-07. They already open more quickly. The Brock exhaust, along with a 16T countershaft sprocket, will really wake the bike up. If you want to save some money, you could get the Muzzy M14. It will benefit more from a good custom map as the Muzzy map support is not as complete. I have had both exhausts.
I've tried a lot of different mods on my bike. If you don't mind reading through 35 pages of my project bike, take a look:

Lot's of mods covered in there.

depends where you live. if you're near sea level most internet maps will work for you. unfortunately i live at 4200' elevation with 9000'-10,000'+ AA when racing, so downloaded maps do me no good
you might as well try them out and see what works best.

16/43 at 63" seems awesome on the street. Agressive, but not too buzzy on the highway. Give it a try! I might go to 64", but my bike is mostly a track bike.
Glad you like the bike. That basic setup of wheelbase and gearing should be pretty solid for you.

I wouldn't suggest that to anyone!
But 16/43 at 63" is pretty tried and true....

I rode my 06 at 63" on the street, even in the mountains and had an absolute blast with it!
If the suspension is sprung and valved, it will still corner very well considering the length, and on the straights I was winding everyone in!
Brocks smeg and map, lowered 1.25" both ends, 17-44 gears, speedohealer ( I like hitting the rev limiter in 6th and good hwy fuel mileage) 6" trac arm, 13.4 spring ohlins shock, 1.1 fork springs and ohlins valve stacks in the forks
I had some giggle juice, but never really needed to use it, only used that to humiliate people... LOL
Had to lower the rear tire pressure to 30-32 psi so it would stay hooked up in 1st and 2nd gear, which also worked well for cornering, as the traction feedback from the rear tire was much better

16/45 will do it, too. You won't need much rpm or clutch slipping with that gear. I ran it last year.
I haven't heard of any clutch basket issues..but it can always happen at the track...
