My ZX-14 Finally Turns a Wheel!
My 14 has went unridden for the 6 months since the end of last race season. I'm still trying to get her together, but I took the first test ride today:

A ton of work left to do. Done so far: new wheels, new tires, forks lowered internally, new swingarm, Penske shock, Brock exhaust, lower profile fuel pump, modified oil pan, new brake lines and rear rotor with single front rotor conversion, modified rearests, new undertail, etc.. I'm proud to say that with the exception of modifying the swingarm and internally lowering the forks, I have done all of the work myself. Even down to the tire changes.
I've paid keen attention to the weight of the bike and it shows. It feels like a different bike....because it is. Like I say, a long way to go...but defintely making progess!

Thanks for the compliments, guys. I took it to the track today:

I haven't been to the strip in 6 months, and I didn't ride it well. Even so, the bike ran well. My personal best from last year was 9.30. Well, my first pass off the trailer was a 9.31. I managed to run a couple of 9.23's on it as well. Bike #58:

MPH is definitely up from last year. I know my riding was atrocious (terrible 60 ft's), but with more seat time I hope to see some progress.
I have some shifter gremlins to attend to. In the afternoon, when the bike was pretty hot, it started missing some shifts. Once it even popped down out of gear. I adjusted the kill time and made 4 clean passes, but I will be investigating this further.

No logging...and some real "ghetto" setup details! Like a t-shirt stuffed in the battery compartment to hold the smaller battery in.
150 is nice...but I think I will see more with some work...

Remember I said that I was riding poorly yesterday? My best from yesterday was only .06 better than what I did last year....even with all of the changes to the bike. So, where is the gain?
Examine these two timeslips (#44 and #58). One, from last year, with a 1.49 60 ft. The other, from yesterday...with a horrific 1.65 60 ft:

But yesteday's pass is only .01 slower...even with the .16 difference in 60 ft! Normally the difference in 60 ft. is multiplied 1.5x or so by the end of the track. Meaning last year's setup would have went 9.55 - 9.60 on that 1.65 60 ft....compared to a 9.33 now. Wow!
The bike is accelerating much harder now....even though I am -2 on the rear sprocket compared to last season. Lot's of potential here!

Shane - where did you get the bracket to mount the CO2 bottle on the undertail?
Nice bike!

Surprisingly, even more than that...I ran over 150.5 on Friday...in hotter conditions!
The lighter weight is really paying off, I think...

Here are couple of pics from the track the other day. I'm waiting on the hi-res pics to arrive, but these will do for now:

I'm purchasing these pics here:

This guy does a lot of East Coast events, and takes great photos. Looking at photos and video is a great way to see what you and the bike are doing. Sometimes perception and reality are far apart!

Too much stuff back there to fly around; needs coverage for sure.
