ZRX build

Well I see lots of post of ZX12 builds so I thought I would post up my ZRX build I just finished. 1307cc stroker motor. Started with a + 4mm stroked(63.4mm), lightened and ballanced crank done by Jay at APE. Shot peened stock rods. Next installed a ZX11 6 speed with ceramic bearings and race cut by MRE. New oil pump and shimmed the pressure relief valve to up oil pressure. Billet ZX11 clutch basket from Falicon. Jugs were bored by Millennium + 2mm(81mm) to fit JE pistons with thermal barrier and skirt coatings. 12.5:1 CR. Base spacer and head gasket from Cometic. Studs from APE. Head is ported with a fresh valve job. Double springs from Kibble White with aluminum Busa retainers. Cams are Yosh ST-1's set at 105/102. Ignition is a Dyna set to 35* for now. Engine is fed by 41mm FCR's and is dumped into a Akropovic exhaust.

VERY nice! what kind/brand of coatings are you using on the pistons?
will you be spraying more nitrous than you were previously? (you were spraying a stock motor before right?)
any more pics of the combustion chambers?

JE did the coatings. Thermal on top and tuff skirt on the sides. I have the NOS system off the bike right now. Not sure if I want to put it back on. I rarely ever used it and if it goes back on a lockup will have to go on with it. Been slowly collecting parts and working on this for about 2 years. Still have a big valve head to complete and install to finish it all off. I ran a couple 9.48's over the weekend with really bad front half's. The rear tire was bottoming out and causing it to buck all over the place. Time to get a shock properly setup. Price......$4K and still going. I stopped keeping track off how much money I had in the bike total a long time ago.

I have a question about the oil holes on the crank. they look like they have a "tail" I assume its for better oiling?
I prefer to have my bling between the oil pan and valve cover too

They are toward the rotation to help force oil into the holes. One of the tricks I found on the ZRXOA and also something APE does to all their cranks. The carbs were pretty much setup when I got them but I've done some fine tuning. They are really easy to tune.

Looks good Ted. What are you shooting for in compression ratio? Are those cams longer duration than ZX11s? -Dean

Compression is 12.5, actually with this head it's just a little higher. The head has .010" shaved off. Yes the Yosh cams are higher lift and longer duration than the ZZR or ZX11 cams. They really start making power at 7K rpms. Need to get it on a dyno here in the next couple weeks and play with a few things. Just guessing but I think HP will be in the mid 170's with TQ over 100 ft-lbs.

You may also want to speak to Brock and get one of the New Brock by Hindle Step tube Exhaust for a ZRX that a "LOT" of testing was done on. it is a 4-2-1 that also uses a Step Mid Pipe so that the Megaphone "OR" Oval Race Muffler can be use! I did a lot of testing and it made 7 HP "More" than the 133 I was already making with the standard Hindle 4-2-1 Exhaust. I have a standard engine ZRX1100 with the ZX11 cams and a Modified Airbos with a Large Filter. This was a Very Stingy Dyno. On a "Normal Dyno" It made 144 HP SAE and 148 HP Std.

Very NICE Job!!

The ZRX step pipe is now in production and will be shipped to Brock some time next month. We are going to offer the generation 3 system (muffler) or the street megaphone system with the option of black ceramic coating. Contact Brock at (937)912-0054 for prices and more info.

These engines are based off the ZX11's so many pieces are a direct swap. The 1200's though have a wider bore spacing. Also the gear pitch on the crank gear and clutch baskets is different from the ZX to the ZRX's. Also have to give to thanks to Dean for letting me pick his brain on a few issues over the past couple years.

Smokin how about I just buy you a hot dog?

Thanks to Hindle and Brock for the new ZRX exhaust, I found some more power. 179.28hp @ 101.13 Ft-lbs of TQ. 93 octane pump gas and Mobil one 10w30 oil. Still needs a little fine tuning to try and level out that fuel curve.

Nobody makes a sidewinder for the ZRX anymore and getting someone to sell theirs is damn near impossible. I got it as low as it will go without doing frame work. It's still my street bike so neither are an option. I'll get it in the 9.10's yet then put the wet kit back on and join the 8 second club.

Great power, congrats Ted. Let's see the new pipe, and maybe a pic of the bike strapped down for the track. Looks badass.
