ATEC 08
After 3 days if seminars and group discussions with some of the best engine builders and racing gurus in the country all I can say is wow the stuff these guys were willing to share is amaizing.
Some of the discussions were very eye opening, and all were very informative in one way or another.
You hardcore gearheads would have been in heaven

Actually they do have a DVD of it. Or will have. The past AETC conferences are available as well.
Breakfast, lunch and dinners were provided on site and some of the best info came from these round table discussions during that time.
I spent quite a bit of time chatting with Dr. Dean and Joe Mondello. The knowledge these guys share is unreal.
Lee Carducci gave a great presentation of how the LS engine was developed and why the different aspects of the design are there. He gave a lot of insight into the design and development of the LS-7 engine.
http://www.aetconline.com/archive/Default.asp
Dr. Dean was awsome explaining in detail the chemestry and physics happening during the phases of the 4 stroke cycle what I hadent exactly understood but read many times in Gordon Blairs book.
Kenny Duttweiler shared a ton of awsome info on heat coatings, supercharged and turbo applications, ....
Just as impressive was the discussions by many of the "well known" attendees. There were small discussion groups going on everywhere during the breaks discussing the most current cutting edge technologies....
It was just awsome.
Today we walked the floor of the PRI show. I wish I could just walk thru there writing checks.
Its like a candy store.

OMG.....OMG.....OMG...............I can't believe what I am reading. I bet you are just stoked at all the stuff you learned. Especially if it was a light bulb moment when you exactly understood what you had read so many times in Gordon Blairs book. I wish you could have gone thru there writing checks too. I wonder if I have room to store that much knowledge.......... you are so awesome. Now to find out what an LS-7 is. And then Dr. Dean and Joe Mondello and then Gordon Blair, hehehehe.!

Pete, yea Bill is here also.
Brenda, I dont know about "awsome". Well my wife has called me that a few times, but not sence we were young.
Wreckshop, most of the info was based on gen III and gen IV GM engines. But much of it was info that can be applied to any engine. Like new ring technology and how to prep a cylinder for it. How to improve ring seal and reduce parasitic rotating losses.
Example, a typical V8 Sprint Cup engines bottom end can be turned over by grabing the front crank snout with your hand and turning it over. About 5 ft lbs of torque is all thats needed and thats a V8 engine.

wow. thats it? man.. lol.. then again, those motors rev to about 10 grand and make ridiculous amounts of power. lol
the kit car i'm looking to build requires an LSx and 'vette running gear, as well as a G50 (or equiv.) transaxle.. factory five GTM is hot sex. i'll be twin-turboing it tho.. put it more on par with a saleen S7 platform. should be fun whenever i get to it.. sounds like i could benefit from such a gathering..

The GTM supercar is a beast. I've got a buddy that's trying to get some money thrown at him to start a shop that builds them. He's going to try to crank out 3-4 per year.

its nasty.. i picked up a few tricks from my boys at champion racing and made a few connections with my ties in LeMans (ALMS, specifically) in '02.
i was considering an entire boxer powertrain, but would have to heavily modify the chassis to accept..
then again, it's be worth the unholy sound that is a flat-six under boost.
ya.. i had also thought of a GTM shop, but then again, between demand and economy and all, i'll build my own first and see how it goes in a few years.. i'd like to use that car and my bike as a billboard of sorts for my shop..

Well, the block is at a friends shop in CA. He is the Co-patent holder of the MID system. He evaluated it for the MID wet sleeve system for me.
We met at the PRI show last week and discussed it . It looks like we cant go more than 87mm because theres no material at the bottom of the block to hold the sleeve on the end cylinder on the timing chain side.
I wanted at least 88-89 mm, so its on hold right now. I'm not convinced that people will want only 87mm even thou it would be a VERY durable 87mm that will take all the spray and or boost you can throw at it.
If you damage a bore you pop it out and replace it.
It will cost about $1500 for the sleeves and installation.
