2008 Orient Express TopStreetBike Championship Report from E-Town, NJ

Orient Express Top Street Motorcycle 2008 Championship , Racewaypark Englishtown, NJ
by: Rick Mazzola
The Top Street Bike racers would like to give special thanks to the boys from Orient Express, the staff of DragBike.com, Wayne Paul, Mike Knapp and the staff of RacewayPark in Englishtown, NJ for giving the motorcycle drag racers our very own points class to compete in! We didn’t forget about all that Eddie Krawiec and Del Flores did to kick start The Orient Express TSB series back in 1998 making No Bar Motorcycle Drag Racing at RacewayPark what it is today! I am speaking on behalf of all the TSB racers, we really appreciate what all the sponsors give enabling us to have a home at E-Town. 10 years of Saturday night streetbike drag racing and still going strong, Thanks to the help of Skip, Jen and Joe of Orient Express, Ken and Donnie of Maximum Motorsports, Dave and Ryan of World Wide Bearings, Del of Del’s Performance Cycles, the whole crew over at Xtreme Machines, Wayne from Naarden-Speedlinks, Rickey of Rickey Gadson’s SportBike Zone, Mike from Mike Slowe Racing, Matt and Brandi from Dragbike.com and Dragbikephotos.com and the crew from Monmouth Cycles for all their support making the Saturday Top Street Bike points series a reality!
This 10th annual Orient Express TSB 2008 season had an even tighter points battle than the previous year, which has been the way each progressing year here at E-Town. Everyone is getting even more consistent and faster. Talk about fast, the number one qualifiers like Sean Walsh a member of the Del’s Performance Cycles 7 second club with a low of 7.80 @ 188 taking the #1 qualifier 3 times and Ken Thiedemann also with 3 #1 qualifiers with ETs as low as 8.60 with his small dry shot nitrous stock motor ZX14, Ashon Dickerson with a low 8.61 on his gixxer1000 and Mike Tona on his big motor Busa as low as 8.36 both with 2 number one qualifiers each, then John Martin with a number one qualifier on his ZX12 going 8.80. The points rank was continually changing places every race as the top 5 were within 1-5 points of each other. The battle for the highest position ended in a tight finish with 4th going to Tony Pasquale with 24 points, 3rd place is Sonny (kawpower) Goodwin with 25, 2nd place is Ken (T-mann) Thiedemann with 29 and Rick (CrotchRocket) Mazzola with 31. Each of the 4 will receive the coveted RacewayPark / Orient Express 2008 Team Jackets and payouts.
Tony Pasquale would like to thank all the TSB sponsors, the staff of E-Town and his wife Nancy for her support. Tony also says that he has had a great time drag racing with the E-Town crew past to present and says wait till next year!
Sonny Goodwin thanks Bradford Nash of RPM Performance, his wife for allowing him to race with the boys, B&B Cycles, Nate Castro, all the E-Town racers, Orient Express and the rest of the sponsors!
Ken Thiedemann thanks Dan Sylvester for all his help, Joe Santos, Andy Spaziani, Jeff Bowman, Tony Pasquale, Rick Mazzola, Del Flores, Eddie Krawiec who are some of the original and current no bar bike racers of E-Town. It’s real fun racing with the E-Town crew! Thanks to Orient Express, the sponsors and the RacewayPark staff.
I would personally like to thank Jason Miller for all his help during his StreetBike Seminars for getting me where I am today in streetbike bracket drag racing, making it possible to win This 10th annual Orient Express Top Street Bike 2008 Championship and the past 2004 Championship!!! Also, thanks to Steve Lombardi for getting me on the drag strip back in 2000, Ken Thiedemann, Frank Barbuto, Jim Totaro, Dr. John Martin, Paul Racanelli, my kids Samantha & James and the rest of my fellow TSB racers for making E-Town an awesome place to drag race street bikes! A big thanks goes out to Orient Express, the rest of the sponsors, E-Town staff and Johnny Critelli for great track prep, and to the guys that really put E-Town on the motorcycle no bar drag racing map, Eddie Krawiec and Del Flores!!!
I want to Congratulate the past Orient Express TSB Champions all the way back to 2000. The 2007 and 2006 back to back Champ was Nate Castro. 2005 Champ, Ken Thiedemann. 2004 Champ, Rick Mazzola. 2003 Champ, Dondi Brothers. 2002 Champ, Tony Steward, AKA Turbo Tony. 2001 was Orient Express’ own Johnny Flood. 2000 Champ, Nigel Ogle!
Again we cannot thank the sponsors and the staff of RacewayPark enough for the Orient Express Top Street Bike points series especially during these rough financial times, Thank You!!!
Congratulations to Eddie Krawiec and the Vance & Hines Screaming Eagle Harley Davidson Team on Winning The 2008 NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle Powerade CHAMPIONSHIP. Eddie became the 2nd racer in the history of NHRA drag racing to win a Championship by round wins and finally getting his Wally, but not just a trophy. The Championship Gold Wally Trophy! Great work this season Ed, everyone at RacewayPark was rooting for you!
Have a great Holiday Season and New Years! See you all for the 2009 season…Remember, You have to be in it to Win it…So, make sure you sign up for the points series because the 2009 season can be your year to Win The Orient Express Top Street Bike Championship!!!
