NHRA prostock displacement

I've been looking, and can't seem to find the displacement guidlines for v-twins. I know that inline 4's have a max of 1650cc's, but wanted to know how much more the v-twins are allowed.

NHRA...............Basically told Harley to build anything they wanted or needed to compete in the class. Suzuki supported that class for years with a presents at the track by the manufacture even. NHRA gave them a HOT ROD right in their TAIL PIPE for the efforts.. Harley is nothing unless they are allowed to make up their own rules to compete.. Remember the AMA Superbike days.... Laughable at best even hiring the hottest riders of the day couldn't get the job done because they couldn't work within the rules.. Rossi couldn't even win on that thing. BUT then again Muzzy can't get one of the best bikes ever built to compete.. Sad day for Kawasaki and about time they get someone with some idea to lead their race development... I'll bet Coby can get the job done

It's just sad... They fumbled the ZX12 project over there and now the ZX14 project is a JOKE !! .5 off the pace everywhere they unload... Rob won on the Harley but that was only because it was a package developed by George Bryce and purchased from them for a price. I'm starting to wonder if Rob could get his nose to run in the dead of winter.. I'll bet they still play Techno rock in his shop..

getting beat by vrods is a disgrace no matter what the rules. i heard they had a small motor in the muzzy bike to get things sorted out before they pu the power to it. sounds like they never even got that to work. i could see struggling for one season but this is season 2 and they cant even qualify. WTF muzzy.

Then why are they even wasting the time, showing up and looking stupid, until you can put down the hp numbers, you should not be on the track. No one races a top gas bike in pro stock.........

Look at all the time and money they are wasting, for what?

Muzzy completely bungled the ZX12 prostock project.. NOW Kawasaki gives him a bike with a killer clutch and strong motor to start with and WTF does he do??? He fumbles that one as well..

Rob if you're reading this LET GO !!! or at least ask someone for help.. YOU are single handedly making my beloved Kawasaki look like a damn HONDA !!!!!!!!! Do you HATE Kawasaki or what ??

Pretty sure the V-Twins are 2600cc's....2.6 liters. The Suzukis are still GS platform air cooled 2 valve engines which Suzuki still supports.Kawasaki refuses to support a racer who uses the air cooled KZ engine.Pete Briggs' Rick Ward powered Kaw with Scott Valetti riding was competitive but with no help from the factory why should he do it? I dont think that Muzzy is not capable,I think there are design flaws with the production based ZX14 engine that Kawasaki insists that they use.The ZX12/ZX14each have problems with their designs whether they are clutch designs or engine architcture limits that make very, very difficult to be major players in this game.If its any consolation there are no Hayabusa based powerplants in NHRA Pro-Stock. Don Schumacher Racing is working on legalizing an all billet Suzuki engine. It will have a Suzuki part # maybe Kaw should take notice!

If not mistaken, Barry Henson tried the Hayabusa engine on his Velocity Pro Stock bike, but he was running 7.20's and couldn't qualify. Another thing to look at is which inline 4's that are racing NHRA are using fuel injection?? That could be another limiting factor on the Kawasaki.

If I remember correctly, the billet cases for the inline 4's all need a factory part number. Maybe that's what Rob is waiting on??

Also, does anyone think that maybe they are fulfilling their sponsorship requirements by attending the races and trying to qualify? Trim-Tex, Kawasaki?? Even though they are out-powered right now, they probably are still required to make an appearance. Just a thought.

They sure don't need people to come on here and shit on them, from what I know they are steadily testing and looking for more power with what they curently have to work with.

I guess the day they do get the power, everyone will want to jump on the bandwagon??

To my knowledge Muzzy's is about the only people Kawasaki has ever helped.. I would hate to think the old Suzuki platform based on a 1980 GS1100 motor is superior to the 14 but hey anything is possible.. Hell just look Byron Hines and George Bryce managed to get a Roto Tiller motor to run... And run they do...

Remember though the GS based engine has years and years of developement on the ZX14 especially the cylinder head. I am kind of suprised though the ZX14 hasn't made a better showing...

I just wonder how much down on hp they are...........

IF they are way down, why even bother?

I have went to a thurs TNT with Craig Treble, and he was running teens, back when teens were competative........, and those of you who know, know how crappy memphis can be on a tnt........, what I am saying is, why waste all the money, do the testing somewhere less expensive........, it actually makes Kaw look bad I think. But thats just me., and my .02

I am just guess 80 HP or so. I figure abt 40 HP per 10 MPH trap speed or so. They are down close to 15-20 mph trap speed. I would really like to see it be competitive. I'm sure all the power is in the cylinder head if they can get it to flow like the BIG 2V heads do..

That's EXACTLY my point !!! Every time Rob shows up and is .5 off the pace it gives Kawasaki a BLACK EYE !! Which I feel is his goal ! I heard rumors before that he had a pissing match with them about NOT sharing info and a childish game with it all... Why on earth Kawasaki would choose him over Coby is beyond me. Coby kicked his ass at every turn when they raced head to head...

HELLO !!! KAWASAKI ............. Call Coby 704-662-0992 I'm sure he can fix that mess

One well know person stated the case (Pun intended) best when he said that the Kawasaki ZX14 was like a Race Car with the Hood Welded Shut!. Most people cannot work on the bike with the Case/Cylinders the way they are but a Busa still is easy to do what ever you want to do! Same thing for the ZX10 also! (Even the Suzuki GSXR1000) Most likely they are going to a DRY Sleve engine where the cylinders are bored all of the way out and a dry sleeve is pressed in to make the engine Big enough! Like I said when I first saw the Bike, and said it was not for me because you are so limited to what you can do to it! I think even the Muzz man is finding these limits

All car engines are that way Vince.... Crank and cylinders all resting at home in one casting. Hmmm ?? Maybe we shouldn't race if it's a little hard

I think what vince is saying is that with a removeable block, you have the option of replacing it with a wider bore spaced block. That option isnt there on the 14.

Kawasaki doesnt seem to care about the potential of the bike after the sale. Where as Suzuki is well aware of the aftermarket following of the busa.
They have plenty of crank and rod clearance for strokers, divorced block from the crankcase, etc.

If kawi would design a new engine and have a seperate block and widen the bore spacing 4mm, make ample crank and rod clearance for large strokers, and put a decent cylinder head on it they would be able to have a good base to start with for a good prostock bike.

But Kawis decision makers dont take into account the life of the bike after it leaves the factory.
I feal its the #1 reason that the busa still outsells the zx14 after 3 years.

Kawi just has no marketing savy. They just dont have a clue as to what would make the zx14 sales double.

There is always a way though Jim........ I can remember when a 632 was a HUGE motor for a Pro Mod and then a 706. NOW days it's 850 CI... (cars) There is always a way ...... Remember when Byron Hines ran the CB1100 F back in like 1983 in Pro Stock..... That motor was severely hampered by bore spacing issues.. Byron just ran it off center.... Set every record coming and going with it in like two races and parked the damn thing when Honda refused to give them any money to race it.. Granted the motor had a short life cycle but it's drag racing and rebuilds are normal.... There is always a way to get creative...
