209.28 at Maxton - naked 1000cc

Hey folks, went to Maxton this weekend and broke into the exclusive 200 club - naked - (unfaired).

Running about 11psi boost on Saturday, I ran 196, 197, then leaned it out a smidge and ran 200.39. The record at the start of the day was 183, so in breaking a record over 200mph, I got in to the '2 club' - for Maxton (ECTA). Not too many have done it without a fairing, or on a 1000cc.

Sunday morning I put in the 1 bar (14.7psi) spring, knowing that I had done what I needed to, and now I could break something and still be happy. Without intercooling (w/a cooler dry) and with a stock head and valves, and stock ign timing, 15psi is kinda pushing it, even with good fuel and pistons (10.5:1). Intake temps logged at about 220F at 11psi, so 15 was gonna be hot. But f*ck it, I got spares.

In the morning the air was cool and pretty dry, and the headwind from Sat was gone. It was very hard to control going through the gears, front end was coming up in 4th (with 19/37 gearing), but I got into 6th and got as small as I could, passing through the traps at about 12K, shiftlight on. Motor made it fine, AFR was lean, 12.4, intake temps hot, 250+, and rear sprocket teeth were hammered, I trailered it and quit while I was ahead. Woohoo!

With water in the intercooler, my good head from SM2W, and some more tuning, I'll go back in late June and try again - new goal: faster without breaking, this time in the MBG class.

Thanks to Henry & Ryan at SM2W in Jax, FL, Kevin Cadby (now at MPS Racing) for a quick tuning session, Andrew Pearce (F.A.S.T) for the turbo header and plenum, and Muzzys for a little help with pistons. Of course the GF Leslie and mascot Lucy for team support and security

Feels so much better to come home with a broken record and a running bike!

Dean

Thanks folks, and I can't believe I forgot to put Dan Rudd's name in the 'thank you' list, without his contribution I would be at home pushing my bike around the garage. Thanks Dan

Dean,
No one at the starting line could believe the number on that pass. The run looked so good and sounded great when you left.
209 is AWESOME!!!!
I stayed at the starting line and never got to congratulate you......so here it goes.......Well Done!
Man that had to be a rush doing it in the open like that and on a liter bike to boot, cool.

Dean, your entry being on a 10 is huge.... and your 209 at the same meet is over the top!

Congrats again, and what an honor for all of us to be included with someone like you.

Thanks a lot Dan, folks, I'm very happy with how it all worked out. Sometimes things *do* go according to plan.

Is there a Bikeland meet at Maxton happening this year?

Dean,
A few of us will be there for the June meet. Myself, Entropy, and TRNorBRN will be meeting up. I'm pretty sure NARider and DahMurf will be there as well. I think they go to all the meets.

You coming back next month?

Ryan

That's great, I plan to be there. Maybe we can make up some Buddy stickers and spill a little synthetic for him.

Congrats again Dean my naked brother in speed! I was very impressed with your 200 run netting you entry to the club. After we finalized the meet I was astounded that you pulled a 209!!! That's just phenomenal. I kept checking that it was still unfaired! I thought maybe you threw the fairing on & forgot to change class! LOL

Btw, you are officially the LAST 200 mph club induction picture I'll ever take! WooHoo!!!

Looking forward to seeing you & the rest of the TFA's in June. Todd & I will be there. I still need my back-up run in the 1350 class!

The news about Buddy is just so sad. Stickers in his honor would be great!

Deb
