Harley's on Pinks......LOL

FYI guys, sandpaper on the clutch plates is not a fix, and just makes things worse......

Bad no no......., just eats up the fibers faster.........

didnt see it, but I think a sanded steel is better thn a glazed steel, I bead blast my steels all the time. Now I know Harley's are dry clutches, dont think its much different though.

By glazed, do you mean purple? If so, that is heat discoloration........., if the steel is still flat, it hurts nothing..........

Still , its not the proper method. Might get you one or two passes, but its just gonna mess things up........

When I think of glaze, I think of some other substance on top of the surface....., ie, glazed donut......lol.

Yes, it was a good one.......

I was just cracking up at the whole clutch sand paper thing.........

Some old tricks are old for a reason.........

If it was the better way to go, we would all have BD mouse sanders hooked up at the races!

By glazed I mean polished and blue, that comes from slippage. On a wet clutch plate there are dimples in the steels do you know what those are for ?

explain why sanding the steels is no good.

Color hurts nothing unless they are warped........

Sanding eats the fibers up.........

But if you want to keep doing it, go ahead, they will keep selling you plates............

If sanding the steels was a good thing......, pro teams would be doing it all day long.........

Its a temporary fix, not a solution. You should not be having to take a clutch pack out all the freakin time and work on it.........

Pro teams take them out every pass for another reason..........

that color is from heat and causes hot spots, (raised pimples) on the plates, those raised areas must be sanded off and then the plates are bead blasted, and whalla, you have a good as new steel again. Bead blasting gives more surface area for oil to cling to. Just like the dimples that are already there, bead blasting just adds more.
Nothing you can do about a warped steel, its trash.
How do you know what pro teams do ?
You dont have to take your clutch out everytime because you aint making no power. The people that do make power look at the clutch pack after every pass.

I was concerned after bead blasting my steels about residual blast media not washing out and creating havoc on the bearings.Hot soapy water and all but just don't know about the dimples.
