TFA: Maxton on Jun 27-29????

Hey TFA-ers!
we gotta wait till Oct for the next Texas Mile, but why not do a "TFA meet & eat" at Maxton in late June?
See what running without head/side wind is like

This was Osti's idea, and me thinks its a good one.

Dang! Thats the time when my family usually goes to Missouri to visit my wife's relatives.

I'll see what the wifey has to say.

Just curious Karl, anybody riding with you? and what days would you be gone?

Anybody have a ECTA rule book? I heard they were not going to let Charlie run unless he
had armor in his leathers or on underneath. My leathers will not pass right now, ECTA rules..........No NutSack ventilation!

Osti33 - If you get a chance post up some of those new rules for us regular Texas Mile folk,

Thanks,

Gary

Yep, I talked to Karl to see if he or anyone else was interested. I think it would be a good time. I had fun at the last meet even though it did rain.

Gary,
I have a rule book but not with me at the moment. It's in my trailer. You absolutely DO need body armor to run at Maxton. I know you need a spine protector and I think (pretty sure) you need extra leather and or armor in the shoulder's, elbow's, hip's and knee's.

I'll check my rulebook tomorrow.

Hips?????????!!!!!!!!!! I'll never get my pants on !!!! They should allow TFA members to pass since our extra girth and big bones make up the difference. It ain't nothing to throw
myself on the ground a couple times with all my cushion!

If you get a chance and do not mind mailing me a copy, I'll make a copy and shoot it over to Karl.

Gary,
I'd leave about Wed 25th midnight, get there Thu 6pm, then leave after racing done on Sun, get back to Moo City sometime Mon 30th.

leathers
Mine are perforated in front but have protection on back, elbows, knees. No extra leather on hips, but foam padding under the leather.

I see Maxton pix which folk don't seem to have any extra leather on hips, and the rulebook posted on the Maxton site doesn't mention it.

Your an Animal Karl!!!!! If you do not mind me tagging along and shareing the expense I just might be able to swing this.

Got to work on the wife a little more.

I have foam in all the spots mentioned, but I did not know if that would pass tech. Are the rules strict, loosely interpreted by tech guy, or abusively interpreted be ego maniac techies?

I have heard the later, unless you are on good terms with the tech guy.

You guys are right on the money. The foam in the spots mentioned will pass tech fine. That is what my Bates suit has. I didn't explain it very well. You will need a spine protector.

Gary,
The tech people I had at the track were very nice. They did enforce the rules but if you do everything in the rulebook you will go through tech without issue. I didn't have any trouble passing tech. You won't have any problems.

Thanks Karl. I have the two bike trailer, balanced as well. Didn't know if Matt was going, but I might be able to get a hold of a small three bike trailer. If he's going you can just throw me in the trunk.

No, I do not think they have problems with pin holes, but they do for expansion joint areas that are none leather. It may have changed since the last time I looked and talked to people, a few years back.

I'm one of the "ego maniac techies" you mention although I don't think I've ever lived up to that expectation.
Below is the section of the rules specifically addressing leathers:
quote:
7.C.2 Leathers:
Leathers certified by a recognized manufacturer to be suitable for the application are required. One-piece suits or two-piece suits zippered together are allowed. Required over 175 MPH: One-piece leathers or two-piece leathers with full (270 degree) metal zipper (metal zipper is actually a strike thought & NOT required. No strike through font on this site that I can find). Also required over 175 MPH: Special protective armor, as produced by a recognized manufacturer, with minimum coverage at elbows, knees, shoulders, hips and back. Undergarments having the required armor coverage are acceptable, when the undergarment is worn with the required leather suit.

So, elbows, knees, shoulders, hips & back need at least the foam pads. CE+ armor or spine protectors are even better but the foam (that comes with a recognized race suit) is the minimum requirement. This can be integrated in the suit or for you TFA members can be a part of undergarments like the compression (gurdle) type shorts.

This one is pretty straight forward. Either you have it or you don't. It's a safety item so you need it or you don't run. Besides, it would be highly unfair if we made most of the riders bulk up with armor and let one or two slide if they weren't prepared.

We have no restrictions on perforation or stretch panels unless of course you show up in a spandex suit. The typical off the rack suits with perforations or strech panels in the usual spots are fine. (Bonneville/SCTA is the one with the all leather rule)

Don't forget proper boots, gloves & helmet as well.

Look forward to seeing some of you at Maxton & actually getting to meet Osti this time!
Deb

PS: My team had enough spare armor to get Charlie down the track. We didn't learn he was having an issue until he returned to the track after having bought some new padding. So, if you're reading this, come prepared! We prefer to save our loaners for people like Charlie that travel many miles & sincerely didn't understand. (As opposed to taking the wait & see if we can get away with it stance.) We're really not hard A$$es, abide by the simple rules & life is good! The techs bend over backwards to get everyone down the track. They're often seen helping mod competitors bikes to help them be legal!

Joe Rocket is usually fine. I believe most of the JR have the necessary padding. If you have any doubts just post up which suit you have & we can take a look at the site. (obviously not the mesh summer ones tho! )

Just an FYI on the "girdle". I wear compression shorts & a long sleeve under armor top. They're both very silky which makes pulling the leathers on & off much easier. Just a little hint for ya! (not that I really want to see any TFA's in spandex!

Ok, here's where you find us techs annoying. Without putting my hands on your suit I can't say yes 100% you will pass. Assuming you meet the armor requirments mentioned above, I'm taking it that the perforations is what you're worried about. (btw, make sure your 360 zippers are zipped! no TFA butt crack in line please! )

Here's an example of some leathers that pass tech with perforations. Compare yours to these. If they're similar then feel good that you'll pass. Feel free to post or send a pic of the area your worried about. Like I said, the ECTA doesn't have restrictions on perforations or panels as long as you don't show up in a mesh suit!

Not to throw Water / Steam on this party but the June Meet is usually Hot Humid and SLow. The September and October are the best because it is "Usually" a Lot colder and a lot more power is made.

If you guys are dead set on this maybe I need to ride my bike down there to watch! It gets about 40 to 45 Mpg on the road and Maybe I can afford that! (10 gallons each way) Still will be over $80 !!

It would be real cool if you could drop by Mr. Hill, I'll spring for $40 and a BBQ sandwich.

Plus don't count us old fat guys out. We are banking on low crowds and we are use to the heat and humidity, well Karl is anyway living in Mo City. Plus he has run at Houston Raceway Park in the dead of summer, thats saying alot.
