Orient Express Top Street Bike report from 4-5-08
Orient Express Top Street Motorcycle Report
by: Rick Mazzola
On April 5, 2008 was the Orient Express Top Street Bike points series race which started off perfect with a 55 degree sunny day! 17 bikes showed up but 14 competed for the trophy and payout. Congrats to Ken Thiedemann for taking the Maximum Motorsports # 1 Qualifier aboard his stock motor / nitrous ZX14 collecting his $50 payout and plaque going 8.72 @ 159! RacewayPark and all the Top Street Bike racers would like to thank all the sponsors and for supporting the 2008 Orient Express Top Street Bike program. Thanks to the help of Skip, Jen and Joe of Orient Express, Ken and Donnie of Maximum Motorsports, Dave and Ryan of World Wide Bearings, Del of Del's Performance Cycles, the whole crew over at Xtreme Machines, Wayne from Naarden-Speedlinks, Rickey of Rickey Gadson's SportBike Zone, Mike from Mike from Slowe Racing, Matt and Brandi from Dragbike.com and Dragbikephotos.com and the crew from Monmouth Cycles for all their support making the Saturday Top Street Bike points series a reality!
Important Info: I have been told the NHRA officials will be visiting RacewayPark more often this 2008 season to make sure those of us that are going faster than 9.99 have the NHRA class 3, type D, ET/MX 7.50-9.99 license! It's real easy to get. All you do is download the license application from NHRA.com or go to the RacewayPark tower and ask for the license application! There are plenty of us TSB races already with the license and will gladly sign off on your testing runs as will the track manager. This is a simple process during the TSB qualifier and eliminations. For those of you not competing you still need the license if your going faster than 9.99 and can do your testing during your runs! Please help RacewayPark in complying with the NHRA rules!!!
First Round: Jim Totaro on his ZX12 lined up with Len Reagan on his ZX14. Len dialed 9.49 leaving first but redlit giving the win to Jim Totaro and his 9.44 dial. Ken Thiedemann and John Martin get sigle runs as their opponents bike broke. Dre Shearn on his Gixxer1000 dialed 9.40 and staged with Sonny Goodwin on his ZX14 dialing 9.77. Sonny cut an .052 with Dre cutting an .046 then passing Sonny to cross the finish line for the win going 9.46 @ 136. Sonny ran 9.85 @ 139. Jeff Bowman on his Busa dialed 9.05 setting up with Tony Pasquale with his ZZR11 dialing 10.79. Tony left with a .055 to Jeff's .058 but Jeff took the stripe with a 9.07 @ 150, and Tony ran 10.83 @ 130. Ron Reagan on his new Busa dialed 9.90 against Andy Spaziani on his R1 dialing 9.30. Ron gets to leave first and took it to the finish line for the win going 10.06 @ 145 as Andy ran a 9.39 @ 138. Rick Mazzola on his ZX12 lined up with motorcycle 1229 also on a ZX12. mcy1229 left first as Rick passed him for the win going 9.43 @ 135 off the gas on a 9.30 dial with mcy1229 running 10.15 @ 136 on his 9.80 dial.
Second Round: Ken Thiedemann gets the bye. Jim Totaro red lit with a -.012 giving the win to John Martin. Jeff Bowman and Dre Shearn go at it as Jeff took the win running his dial of 9.05 @ 144 with a .031 reaction to Dre's .059 and going 9.44 @ 145 on his 9.35 dial. Rick Mazzola lined up Ron Reagan. Ron left first and ran his 9.95 dial @ 147 but gave up the win due to his reaction as Rick ran a 9.42 @ 141 on a 9.30 dial.
Third Round: Jeff Bowman gets a single run as John Martin had bike problems. Rick Mazzola staged with Ken Thiedemann. Ken red lit with a -.015 giving away the win. Congrats to Ken and John for making it to this semi final collecting their $30 payouts. Ken also receives the Del's Performance Cycles gift certificate.
Final: Rick Mazzola dialed 9.30 on his ZX12 against Jeff Bowman on his Busa dialing 9.08. Congrats to Jeff for finishing runner up collecting his $65 payout and trophy! Jeff thanks his wife Althea, Andy Spaziani and JDS Cycles.
