making the clutch cover and lock up spacer one piece

its going to happen one way or another, just wondering if anyone else has done it? i was thinking about tapping the holes for the dowels on the cover side of the spacer and bolting the cover to the spacer . ill probly slightly gouge out the line/crack where they meet with my dremmel, and built it back up with JB weld. sand it flat, paint it black and hopefully never take the "dowel bolts" out and ruin it lol
going for a "stealth mode" lock up

anyone who knows anthing is going to notice it.......

If you cut the gasket right, and tilt the bike before you remove the cover, you wont have any oil drip problems when you remove the cover......., lets the oil run back in the pan. Take the lip off the gasket. Hard to explain, but you will notice it, lower left part of the gasket, it will hold a couple spoon full of oil.

yes i have to trim the fairing
i only care about fooling the non bike guys Nox if its less noticable (no big shiny aluminum strip) its keeping more to my "street" look. i just put a set of front turn signals on the bike lol. plus i think it will look better all black with no extra gaps. the spacer doesnt match up exactly with the cover, and that kinda bugged me for some odd reason...
i know exactly what you are talking about, the gasket is wider than the cover. thx for the tip, ill shave it down

Scott, just paint the spacer the same color as the engine block.... most people won't notice it.

Actually just paint the spacer Black and then the cover still looks correct and no one notices it!

When I make adjustments at the track, I tip the bike hard to the left on the kick stand, to the point of getting the rear tire off the ground. (dont get hurt doin this), but it really helps keep the mess down. putting the rear tire on a 2x4 block helps as well.

too late guys, i allready started the process awhile back of sanding the cover to paint it black(to get rid of some gouges from the po and i like black), and i started "matching" the cover to the spacer. im doing the stator cover black too, possibly the valve cover....
12s are rare around here, the car guys wont notice a thing, possibly a few of the bike racers too...
more good tips! thx Nox

I used high temp gloss black on mine, just cleaned it with laquer thinner, then baked it in the oven, holds up decent. Have a few small chips from wear and tear, but any real race bike will. i

yeah, its getting rattle canned lol. i picked up some vht/pj1 caliper enamel. all the big money is being spent on going fast...the paint is on a shoe string budget lol. the plastics need to be redone... but i doubt it happening this season... maybe a nice set of catylst bodywork will make it on next season and have some nice blue/black paint

Go for it. I thought of doing something similiar this summer. I wanted to machine a complete cover from aluminum. That way the chrome will hold up better.

that would be nice
would you be able to convert it over to a hydraulic clutch at the same time? a guy in the UK did a hydraulic conversion, and he said it fixed the muzzy broken puller deal...but it was a PITA to make....i wonder if it it just had a better machined rod similar to the MTC?.....

Why would you want a hydraulic clutch?

There is a reason they make cable conversions......

i was under the impression that on the custom one you could pull the lever in when it was fully locked up(and no broken parts). makes it like a regular clutch for idiot proof street driving....maybe i am remembering the post wrong, who knows....ill try and find it sometime. Lorcan/Keith Parnell were the guys that had it.

Question is, do you want a street bike, or a race bike.

Do you want to be kinda quick on the street and track, or FAST on the track. You cant have both, and be totally user friendly. Keep the cable, set up the lock up for full tilt, and run it.

If you dont know how, call your Doctor.

haha i want both Nox, so ill probly have to have a race setting and a street setting (Dr reccommended) for the lock up. i dont mind pulling the cover after i get to the track, and before i leave(probly do it a few times at the track to get it right anyway). trimmed plastics and a cordless drill = quick access

Seth,

i guess we have to log into to that forum to see the pics?

Yes, trim the pastic, but you will not have to change the lock up from street to track. Just no pulling the lever at high wheel speed.

I never changed anything when I was done racing...Just rode it on the street like a regular street bike...You just hve to adjust YOUR riding style a little...You can't really get after it on the street without getting the REAR WHEEL speed up some to get the arms OUT to put some weight on the pressure plate...It can be done without having to take it all apart...My static is REALLY LIGHT...one finger pull on the lever....street or strip...Just an idea to try , ok...
Later,

like nox said you are not pulling it in at high wheel speed! say you are at 55-60 mph some reason you need to pull it in ,SOMEONE PULLED OUT IN FRONT OF YOU OR SOMETHING YOU ARE NOT PULLING IT IN!
the only way around a lockup on the street is the pingel electric you can get it so it shift up and down, but they are not the greatest in a racing situation. like it was said you have to decide is it a full on drag bike or a street bike?
i had a buddy ride mine at the track and he tried to pull in the clutch as he went threw the traps he really could not get it pulled it and it broke the end off the pull rod and messed up the acuator.
ON A SIDE NOTE POWDER COAT THE SIDE COVER IT HOLDS UP TO THE HEAT AND MATCHES THE FACTORY PERFECT! I DO THEM ALL THE TIME FOR $25-$30 PAINT WILL NOT LAST.

i want to set it up to get the most out of it at the strip, but like you said if i have to pull the lever in on the street (car or something in front of me ) i want to be able to do that, and i dont have a problem with removing some weights from the arms for street driving....having 2 setups is fine with me. ill have a different rear wheel/tire and shorter chain for street driving anyway.
9 over with a shinko for drag, and 4 over with a race take off for street
ill get some pics of the cover up soon, i did some work to it tonight
