Just out of curiosity...concerning the bearings , how many layers are there?
I wanted to know because some builders ,from days gone by, would use scotchbrite
pads and remove the first layer, because it is very soft ,and has a tendency to smear.
Im probably Wrong but it looks like the outer portions have a build-up ....or is that area
lower from material loss.
I wonder what you would see if you colored the bearing with a marks-a-lot and gently
rubbed them on the corresponding journal toshow high spot, low spot.
Karl probably has Dyechem, Im poor and use the brokeman marks-a-lot method

Looks like they took a beating from the magnatized crank. Why all the scratches?

They seem as if they are coated from the factory, but I could be wrong. If so then what are they coated with if anyone knows?

I used to GENTLY scotchbrite bearings that came out of good running motors, as long as they looked OK.
Those scratches look like bore gauge marks, I think Karl has sworn off plastigauge.

What am I seeing? Which marks are deeper, the gray or the shiny?
maybe the oil pressure is wearing a groove on the bearings soft coating.
Will the scratches wipe out with a scotchbrite?
Do you feel any of that would have caused problems in the near furture?

.003 off the head Nice!!!!! That and slipping one of them razor bases out should
get things pumping real nice again!
What CR are you looking to go with now?
I'd also think the rod bearings were just getting hammered from the way the HP was generated/delivered, higher compression (I used generated/delivered since Mr. Meyer did not like my generic high HP term in the Oil section). I think this may be part of normal wear for your type of engine. What do the powers that be have to say on that topic?
I would also think if it were more of a magnetic problem then the mains would probably look worse. Still a good idea to cover that basis just in case.
Don't know what the Heavy Hitters around have to say, These motors may like a little heavier hand on the clearances, but maybe where possible tighten the mains up a little so they don't bleed off as quick and keep the pressure up. Don't Forget though, I am an Idiot compared to most.

I've seen that multiple times and to be honest... I don't sweat-it as long as the Journals look good...(I DO replace bearings that look like that though)...
I believe that coating the bearings will help
We are going to start a coating service at work...I let you know how it goes...
