thx
was just talking to Mark at R&D about my trans. he got it fluxed and called me. 4th input gear had a couple little marks on it 2 teeth, but he thought it was fine to be used again. he said it looked like a little scratch about .010" by .030". also 3 of the gears had dog rounded off so bad that their wasnt enough metal to work with for a back cut. that means replace or go with a hardweld on the dogs. Mark and I agree that the trans didnt have an easy life LOL. im going with a hardweld as he told me new stock gears are $125 each and its $7 to weld one dog
grand total so far: $1392 (plus shipping)

Ouch! $1392 just in the tranny?
What caused the pitting on the head? That's weird. Don't think it'll affect sealilng either. Nice job in the chambers. What did you use to get than finish.

yup, but i shouldnt have to worry about it now. all billet ouput gears except 5th and 6th, flux, HD clip mod, shift drum mod, back cut, hardweld damaged dogs....
im not sure about the pitting. i want to blame the easy off, but im not really sure, ill do a test on some scrap chunk of aluminum thats pretty much polished(extra from making dads undertail) to find out. i was really careful putting the easy off on the chambers of dads head just incase....
same thing on the chambers as the ports, 180 grit sandpaper on a dremmel wheel. i hit it with a power ball and polishing compound too(just the cc) but i didnt notice any change. im guessing i would have to use much finer grit before polishing compound would really do anything

sure, ill get a few up tomorrow. its very basic stuff. as far as porting tools and supplies, $50 would cover it. an el cheapo dremmel knock off, some sanding drums, tape, sand paper, can of brake clean and youre set. i got a jobmate dremmel knock off over a year ago for $20, even if it only lasted long enough to do a head it would be worth it... but mine is still running great . its more taking your time and not holding it on one spot too long. just clean it up. dont change the shape, leave that to the experts

Spend the money for the works with Mark, it is worth it, trust me. I put a ton of air in a wore out tire, on a horrible track, at 68 inches, and laid a black mark down the whole track, ate up all 6 gears before 1000ft......., perfect shifts.........
Mark is THE MAN.

mine has just about everything they offer besides billet 5th and 6th
another IN cam to go on the EX side and a set of adjustable cam sprockets are on the way from the Cheese man for my build (should be here any day now) thx!

Yeah, and I dont think they offer billet 5th or 6th, or I would have it..........
With the low 1st gear, and 16/51 gearing, 2nd gear comes QUICK. I had to get a bigger shift light........., with 12 LEDs.....lol

haha yeah, i was looking at some big ones on jegs.com im trying 17 52 with the low first. to get the 5th and 6th billet gears talk to VH, i think he has a few sets left, special order from Bill Robinson(who makes the billet 1-4 gears R&D carries). JC might have a slightly used set too...
ok, couple pics
I cut away some of the extra gasket as you advised NOX

going to fill the notch i made with jb weld and file/sand it flat, then paint the whole thing black so it looks like one piece. covering up the "MTC" aswell :P

Now, when you take it off, lean the bike way over to the left before you pull the cover, and it will only drop a couple of drops of oil instead of dropping a couple of spoonfuls.........

not only does it save a mess, if you pull the cover enough (without cutting the gasket)and dont top up the oil, bad things can happen :S. im pretty sure Wolf Racing did that and ran the oil level too low after a bunch of clutch adjustments. the end result was toasted bearings i believe

I really appreciate it Just waiting on the HF stuff and ill be having an OCD frenzy measuring stuff lol

did a bit of work on my clutch cover and spacer. going to file/sand the jb weld flat and paint it black for a more stealthy look. anyone who knows what to look for will be able to pick it out, but most of the car guys wont notice (im hoping)
