pulling motor for the first time for trans fix. motor work too? hmmm

Wish me luck gang, Im attempting to do all the work myself. I broke 2nd gear, and im going to get a few billet gears into the bike. while its all apart, i might try and do a few motor upgrades too, im not sure what the budget will allow for yet. Im sure I will have lots of questions for the engine builders so please watch this one!
will try and get pics as i go. should be a great learning expirience/good practise.

Not a builder but did pull my motor out and tore down than got cold feet ;( if the budget allows.

http://www.procryo.com/RemGears.html

Than a set of ceramic tranny and water pump bearings from Worldwide bearings

I had my tranny done on my 1k after being undecut along with ceramic tranny bearings. I have no real world data as the motor is waiting on the head and coatings but should be done soon.

More benefits than less friction. The tranny has to be sent in dissembled completely I had a lot of other stuff done too parts so would not be fair too post a price.

Good luck!

Rick

Be sure and get new cir clips for the tranny. If you have a lot of money burning a hole in your pocket then go for the ceramic, otherwise it does not make much difference.

Good luck and have fun. keep us posted with pics and all.

trying to get pics to work. my computer died so im using an old one with windows 98 on it ... the digital cam needs windows 98se or better, so im going to try and find a palce to download that for free.....(unless someone can point me in the right direction to find xp for free )

I broke second from too many missed shifts from drag racing. need an airshifter. i dont always get my feet up in time when i get a good launch. second gear was snapping and cracking and making all kinds of wierd noises, and was really jerky, like teeth were broken off of gears so i parked it. that was during eliminations of the biggest race of the yr too

I got 3d kawi puzzle well on its way to being all apart. got the motor out of it, and lifted it up with a crane to take off the oil pan. i didnt want any chunks of metal falling up into the top end of the motor . got the pan off and picked up some slivers of metal with a magnet. not as much as i thought i was going to get tho so i guess thats a plus. took the plugs out and i was turning the motor over in first by the sprocket nut, put it in second and it will allmost start to turn the crank, and then slip and the the crank stays in one place as the sprocket turns 1/4 turn real fast then it catches again. looking up into the tranny, i cant really see anything obviously wrong, but im not really sure if i can even see the area thats causing the problem....

I do tranny repairs all the time without doing complete teardowns. Clean all you can and it should be good to go. Don't forget to inspect everything on the tranny-drum, fork shafts, forks, engagement dogs. Good luck.

well i built a stand out of some scrap metal tubing, and have the motor upside down, ready for the cases to be split. with the oil pan off, and in second gear (the f*cked up one) i can kinda see whats going on. it doesnt do this all the time, but sometimes when im turning the motor over (with a wrench on the sprocket nut) i can see a gear jump sideways a bit and the crank wont move....not sure whats wrong... maybe a circlip? i havent done anything like this yet, but im about to dive in head first lol.

those forks are toast!
could be why the gear went out also... not shifting smoothly into gear??? but then again I have seen them just break going down the track and not even shifting... probably had a crack in that one though and it just gave away..

Leave them dang check balls out. I've never had anyone complain that they couldn't find neutral because they were left out.

I can't imagine why that hole is full of oil. Did you use that gravity defying Z-max in your oil? LOL I can't see it hurting anything though. If it won't drain out if must be getting in around the threads.

You could simply replace all the bad gears or send it to some reputable trans shop and let them handle it all. Some shops can weld up seriously rounded dogs then undercut them saving you money.
