Where do you shift?

For all of the racers out here:

At what RPM do you shift when doing WOT runs to get to top speed?

I have a '00 ZX-12R w/PC III USB, K&N airfilters, Muzzy Full System exhaust

stock gearing 18/46
modified gearing 17/46

we have several roads 1 1/2 -2 miles long. '

We basically run from 2nd gear @ 70 mph and run WOT through 6th... I dropped a tooth in the front to get to my top end quicker...but of course I lost about 12mph.

Does the powerband change when you change the gearing or will it remain the same?

I am considering putting the 1270 or the 1361 kit into my bike to make up for the pork on me! I'm 260lb

That is Exactly my weight within a pound or 1

Make sure "YOU" Know on your tach where the limiter is! Make a mark in it and shift about 200 Rpms below that figure. The taller you are geared the bigger the gap between the gears when you shift. Peak Power is between 9,500 and 11,500 which are both above peak torque. If you are shifting and fall much below this you are out of the power band.

If you are only doing this for Grins, put a 2.5 pound bottle of NOS in the tail section and about a 20 shot of NOS (1 bar on the PC3 richer on top end) wire the button to the horn switch and use 2 spray nozzles in the inspection cover plates. No one will see anything! Hit the spray at 8,500 in 4th 5th and 6th Gear! You will have a serious 200 HP MC and be hard to beat! If they get faster go up to a 30 shot or 40 shot! You can safely run the 20 shot on premium gasoline but you should have 105 to 110 OCtane for the 40 to 60 shot!

Doing this cost about $500 and you are never in the engine and total reliable motorcycle!

Really? That does sound interesting and certainly is cheaper than the $1700 bucks the dealership is going to charge me for the 1375 kit. The only problem I have with this is I am scared to death of using the NOS because I am afraid of enging meltdown!

40-50 is fine with stock plugs, stock motor, and stock timing with 93 pump or better fuel. Make sure you add fuel via the power commander.

Ry--

Ryan Schnitz thinks its ok......

The 1375 Kit is hard on everything and for the "Street" no many will go 5,000 Miles. A 20 SHot only need 1 Bar on the PC3 in the top end zone and does not change the off NOS Performance. Until I got the big shot and had to change everything I ran the Mile for 2 years with a 60 SHOT everything stock. I Ran the Timing advancer Minus 2.5 degrees and 2 bars richer on the PC3 and nothing else

5000 miles and the 1375 would render my engine kaput?!!

I believe that I will go with the 1270 kit.... I'm going to have to learn more before I go with the NOS because I just don't completely understand the principles behind it yet.

Vincent...to ensure that I am tracking.... you always shift just short of the limiter regardless of what gearing you run?

I know that the limit is 11500 w/Muzzy fully exhaust, PC III and K&N filters...so you say that wheter I run 17/46 or 18/46 or 18/47 gearing...it doesn't matter just shift @ roughly 11200 or so?
