Bolt on extensions? Pros/cons?

Obviously the pros would be price and ease of going back to "stock". However, is there a point in terms of HP/Torque.....gearings.....60 fts....etc that one woud want to stay away from adding bolt ons? I've heard the stock zx12 swingarm isn't the most stout out there....and stretching it too far out with gobs of power seems like it would potentially twist the arm.

I feel like I'd be ok if i went with a 4" stretch on a 60 shot but I wanted to here from those in the KNOW.

Thanks in advance.

A.

Should not be any problem at all I know a heavy hitter (that must be at least 50 to 70 lbs heavier than me) that used them on his 1270 with more than double the nos you want to use. Entropy and Buddy know Ralf as well..............................But you may loose a very little bit of HP from the added chain. JohnnyCheese might still have his extensions for sale as he was parting that bike out. He also has some other go fast parts such as OD 5th and 6th and some A-Beam carrillos as well.

Can launch much harder and have decent control over just stock wheelbase...don't know specifics with the 12R...at least 6" would amaze you...cut at least 2 tenths even while still learning to launch hard...

I know a guy thats been using a set of home machined extensions set at 4 over on his 1270 for a few yrs with no problems, and mine are set up longer (but im still no spray and stock internals.) i dont see them as a weak point, they are very solid. im not worried about them...im not very good off the line yet, but i did manage to get a 1.65 60ft i really doubt that would be possible for me without the extensions and home made straps
woppi, is that a stock arm with added bracing (plus extensions) ? have any more pics of the arm itsself?

sweet! i might have to do something like that over the winter... what are the specs on the tubing?.... should prevent any flexing of the arm, and still room to put the wheel in the stock location right?

There IS one disadvantage! The Adjustment Range! I have from "0" to 6 Inches (Real Long Story about a Jerk in Indiana who has a BIG Web site! I would suggest having your arm modified to 0 to 6! This way you have everything for Good. SOmetimes 2.5 inches is what you need and the Stock will not get it and the extension will not get it! See if Doug Ray will make you one for about $400 "Spencer Cycle" Spencer NC He used to be a Board member here!

Doug makes NICE stuff.

He even made an arm to make a friend of mines buell 68 inches, with a chain conversion......., it was pretty cool. Doug is great to deal with.

Bolt-ons are strong and work very well for most people.
With 4" and a 60 shot you will be happy, and still have a few hundred dollar in your pocket.
It should not flex any more than a welded arm . There are turbos on bolt-ons.
