NLR Two-Step problems ???
Need some help guys..... as some of you may know I run a ProET ZX12 down here in division 2. Well I've been having this intermittent problem where my bike will leave as I put it onto the two step as I'm trying to stage. This has been going on for a while and it's making me loose concentration at the line hoping the bike holds or it just leaves before I'm staged ... I've changed launch buttons and had the delay box checked. So now i'm thinking the 2-step might be the problem........ Anybody experience a problem like this ??? I've got to get this sorted out before the division 2 bracket finals. Thanks, Roy

How can it leave if you have tyhe lever pulled in..Or do you have a slider...Clutch adjusted right on????Or out of adjustment...

My drag racing buddy has had that problem happen... (jumping prematurely at the line) he has been blaming the microswitch...caused him a red light when it acted up...
My partner is a 60 year old diesel mechanic that is very smart ; been dragracing 40 years and owns his own heavy duty equipment shop...In other words a faulty microswitch sounds right ..
I have no idea if it can be fixed or not.... never tried to fix one...
My two (blind) cents: I would get a "brand new two step" if you have to.....and be done messing around...
good luck solving...

Stuart.... I've got a slider... It's adjusted right on the money. It's a electrical problem. I contacted NLR and he told me to check all the connections, which I was going to do anyways. If it turns out to be the 2-step I'm sh#t out of luck cuz he doesn't make them anymore. Kevin from K+R is sending me a loaner delay box to make sure that's not the problem....can't say enough for Kevin for stepping up to the plate like that !! Salsa, the micro switch is new. So right now I'm going to check all the wiring again. swap the delay box and hope for the best. If it turns out to be the 2-step I think MSD is now making one for sportbikes. Roy

Roy, I have had trouble with mine in the past not working on the two step side.........back when I was set up like you, but with the lock up, .
The two step has a delay built in, so that you cant hit it twice, Sebby will be able to tell you about it.........., I would have the problem when I did a burnout, some how with my lever turning it on, but not really wanting to use it.........., as I pulled the clutch coming out of a 4th gear burnout.........
I found that by killing the bike with the key, after the burnout, then restarting, problem went away, as it rest the delay. I made it a habit, just to clear my head............
Try that. I still use mine, but only for the built in kill for the shifter, my two step stays set at 15,000 so it never kicks in.............
Hope that made a little sense............, if not, you still have my cell phone number right?

As I'm sure you know, this can be very dangerous...I know your exprerienced enough to HANG ON when you are on the twostep...I'm pretty sure it's the switch though...(or the wiring)..There is alot of vibration going on at that time,it might be the box going haywire...Digital delay ??????Or older dip switch style....I never heard of NLR..I just use all DYNA and DEDENBEAR stuff..
When I had an air clutch/delay box setup, and it released when it wasn't supposed to..It reallly woke me up...(yikes)....
NOX'S idea is good to check and see if it cures the problem...
Good luck,and HANG ON......

Nox , I talked to Sebby today. Your right it has a 5 second lockout, but that shouldn't be an issue as I only go up on the 2-step once. It will hold for a little bit and then let go.....Remember this is an intermittent problem.
Stuart, NLR makes alot of turbo busa stuff. They made these 2-steps a few years back. I really hope it turns out to be the delay box or wiring as the NLR 2-step is the only game in town for the ZX12 and their not making it anymore.
So the plan is to check all the wiring, install the loaner delay box and head out for some testing. Roy

Stuart, your home track Gainesville ?? You must know Mike Lakosky... I'll see him at the SEMDRA and Prostar races.... He's usually towards the top of the heap in ProET. Will you be at the Gainesville Prostar finals ?? Roy

I did not know it would be on the low side then let go.........
I had a different problem...........
I thought someone else made a two step for the 12 now?
I seriously doubt that it is Sebby's box...........

MSD is making a 2-step for sportbikes but for some reason it won't work on a ZX12 ??

I wonder why?
I know to make my NLR work on mine, Sebby had to talk me through setting it up through a relay, cause my clutch was wired messed up from the fact..........
He is way to smart for me to talk to on the phone.........

Doc, NLR new in the box ???
Paul, I race down here at Moroso. Our season is already over !! They were going to do a big remodeling of the track over the summer but the money people backed out. It's too bad because the track really needs a makeover, the racing surface just seems to get worse and worse. Anyhoo.... I ended up 6th in a tight ProET points race. just 10 points out of 2nd. Close huh ?? I made the team for the bracket finals. That's why I need to get this electrical gremlin figured out. Roy

Ya you guys have a lot of good racers at that track...Your team always brings up some good riders from Moroso...I never raced at that track yet...Just Bradenton...
You otta get that box from Doc if they are not making them anymore huh...I usually race Pro E/T but without a delay box nowadays you don't have as gooda chance as you do with one...I still have an 8.60 Kawi KZ cartire bike...But no box...
Good luck Roy,
Paul.......
