Steels hard to get out but not warped?

I've had some steels that have been difficult to remove but when I've used a feeler gauge to check them they are not out of spec. What is going on with these? Do the teeth twist slightly under heat?

I've found in cases like above, that when the steel is placed against a new steel, there will be light visible between the two, indicating the bad steel is warped.

Agreed, that is how I do it at the track, but the service limit is suppose to be 0.3 mm. It seems to me that warpage under that would still allow them to slide on and off easily. I may be expecting too much.

I've got a 14 now but had a 12 and that is where my experience with warpage got huge. Seems that any warpage there would cause problems. Don't really know about the 14, which by the times you list, sounds like you are asking about. I bought a spare clutch pack for my 14, I guess out of habit, but haven't needed it yet. Clutch still looks new after probably 75 runs.

if the steel is having a hard time moving back and forth its done, remove it and replace.
