Run factory clutch change fibers an steels as a set even if steels arent warp still replace as a hole unit/will stack much closer to factory.Run stock springs but add brocks spacers under springs. This set up will net you best results and you will love the feel better than original.Bill..

Buy the OEM set up...Same amount of fibers and steels!!!...I have to say that Kawasaki did their homework with the clutch for the ZX14!!!

Schnitz has the clutch pack needed for the OEM set up...No fuss on figuring whats in the clutch...Or going to the dealer and telling the parts guy I need the OEM fibers and steels for a ZX14 and his answer is, well what fibers do you have in your bike???

Stick with the oem clutch, and dry clutches are not for drag racing just information...

Are you running the stock springs?? Do you have any spacers in place to put more presuure on the clutch pack?? Either make or buy some .240 steel spacers and use with your stock springs. That should help slow down the clutch wear.
Also are you sliding the clutch or dumping it??? That will make a hugh difference in your 60' times and clutch wear.
If your still having a problem, I started using Funny Bike clutch in my ZX14 last June ran them the rest of the year and the bike was still putting down 1.50 60' times. after hundreds of passes and 2K miles of street and strip use. I am known for hot lapping a bike at my local track trying new things. On a good night I can make 10 to 12 passes back to back, so I am not easy on my clutches by any means...

By the way were the inside clutch fibers and steels burnt more than the outside??? Or did you not notice when you were takng them out??? Or were they all used up about the same???

Good luck and keep us posted..

any chance the fibers were on the dry side? One of the guys around here has gone thru 2 clutches rather quickly....when he pulled them apart, he said they were really dry.

I love the clutch threads, everyone has their own opinions.........

If you try to go real fast, you will wear out clutches, no matter what, unless you have a properly tuned lock up..........

Who wants to change clutches mid season..........? Toss the lever and roll.............

While I agree lock-ups extend clutch life, alot has to do with launching techniques.
The faster you can let the clutch lever out, the longer your clutches will last, PERIOD!!!

To get 200 passes on my stock clutches, means Kawasaki did it right this time, plus it means I have my bike set-up so that I can let that lever go ASAP, and thats what I've trained myself to do. In my case, the ZX-14 has the torque to get you out of the hole launching at only 3k RPM and letting the lever go almost instantly. Saves clutches that way.

I get 200+ passes out of a set also ....I stage at 5700 and the clutch is out ASAP.... The clutchs i have removed are still useable, no warped plates but the fibers are starting to get thin .... I use OEM clutchs and stock springs ....I tried spacers and HD springs and picked up no MPH or ET so i pulled them right back out and reinstalled the stock suff ...I like the feel of the stock springs and clutchs, they give me great feed back to my clutch hand ...

Sounds like he needs to remember to lean his bike and oil the stack before staging.

Setting on the bike Lean the bike to the right, pull in the clutch lever....Oil will fill the clutchs... Do this before your burn out ( everytime ) and you clutchs will last longer...

When I'm sitting in the staging lanes I'll lean the bike with the motor off and bump the starter just a tad, let it soak and then bump it again and again until I think I've gotten the clutch all the way around. Then like Smokin' said, I lean the bike right when it is running in neutral before my burnout. I pull the clutch in and out to let the oil get in there between the plates and then let 'er rip.

How long should I burn out for?
what rpm is probably best to launch at?
any other things that might help me make some jaw dropping e/t's???

Here's a short vid that show's how long I burn out for. Some tracks I burn out alot longer than others, depends on starting line traction.

I launch between 3K and 5K. But it's all about personal preference and bike set-up.

Seat time is everything to help get those ET's down. Practice makes perfect.

A friend of mine ( Performance eng. ) sell clutches that start out in funny bikes and we have been puitting them in street bikes for the past couple of years. they are thicker than stock fibers and wear way better than stock stuff. I installed mine last year at the end of June and ran them all year, 200+ passes and was still getting 1.50 or better 60' times with them.

Also your saying that the middle clutches are wearing out faster than the others, this is due to oiling issues, AKA lack of oil. When my ZX12 went theu it's 2nd set of clutches in a month, I knew that I had to due something. That's when I drilled out the clutch puller shaft and increased the oil flow. Used the same set of clutches for 2 years on a slick and bar bike and when I sold the bike after being put back to street still had the same clutches in it.

I am working on getting more oil to the clutches now, I will let you know how it works out.

Doc.
