Slow azz ZX12
Guys my bike is slowing down at the track.
Bike ran 147-149 at the track pretty consistant this spring,
now it runs 140-142. engine runs smooth, and feels strong
but the et and mph are off.
Bike has 5000 miles stock motor, never had a tune-up.
Can the weather make this much difference?
Any ideas?

Could your clutch be slipping? Headwind?

no 1 suspect
I would suspect the clutch. I lost 6mph in the 1/8th and it turned out to be the clutch. Swapped it and it's back on track!
Second guess is check plugs and also look inside the airbox to make sure you didn't draw anything inside that might be restricting airflow.

ARE YOUR 60' TIMES DOWN??? I would say clutch then, if not they I would check you plugs, airfilter's. after that the list is endless, pluged fuel filter, wheel bearings drying up chain stiffening up?

man, everyone is right on here.......
1. clutch fiber's or spring tension (check clutch lever too, to ensure complete engagement. Lever should have an 1/8" or so of some play)
2. Inlet air restriction. Check it all, at the ram air, at those little resonator POS, the little rubber connecting tubes and then the air filters.
3. Chain tension and oil.
4. PLugs
5. Running too rich would hurt some, but I wouldn't guess as much as you're seeing.
6. Short shifting the gears too much would hurt too.

Weather difference between a good and bad day can easily make that much difference. Wind is also a factor. The ZX12 don't seem to like side winds, and you know head winds are not good. If your bike is running a bit rich it amplifies the difference, if it's running lean it minimizes it. I always write the weather conditions down in a log book when I run, then I can have comparison runs with other like days. It's a must for bracket racing.

New Clutch didn't help. The weather is hot (~90) high humidity . I will try new plugs. Glad nobody said really bad things came to mind first.
Still hoping the motor is not hurt.
Anyone ever lose that much mph from plugs and weather?

I have noticed a decrease in power (ET & mph) when it is hot and humid out.
More so on the ZX12R than the Busa. ZX12 likes to breath!!!

Make sure you have a heat blanket. The ZX12 tends to heat up the airbox on hot days, and it can cause a loss of power for sure.

My old top gas Suzuki ran 172-175 in the summer,176-179 in the spring and fall.
