Learned something at the strip tonite

My bike likes 16/46 gearing as opposed to 17/46. With the 17 on, I was just having to hit fifth gear before the stripe. With the 16 on, I'm into fifth pretty good but not near the red. MPH was up to 155. Had been 152 in similar weather last weekend with the 17 on. Got my second best time with the stock arm on it, 9.35, 1.63 60'. Hey, I just remembered I swithed to Royal Purple this week as opposed to the ususal dino Pennz 10/40. Hmmmm...Clutch starting getting pretty grabby and slammed it pretty hard right out of the gate twice in a row on the last two passes. Painfully unfun so I called it a nite while I could still breath. Might be time for new steels. May have hot lapped er just a tad too often tonite. Thank goodness for Ron Ayers!

Way to go Ken!!

a 1.63 60' time with a stock arm is pretty good from what I have seen and heard! maybe when you get used to the new gearing some more, you might ACTUALLY crack off a 1.59!! How cool would that be!?!

Picking up those 3mph is pretty substantial! Hell, my MPH never seems to stray more than 2 mph, ever! I'd love to just "pick up some MPH" like that with a sprocket change!

I'm surprised you didn't encounter wheely problems at top of 1st gear!

great times man.

hey Ken,
moooving on up, eh??? My bike also likes aggressive gearing, just short shift 1st (not so simple to do consistently for me, but works sometimes).

Are you coming to the Tx shootout stretched or stock?

Since I am going to be a spectator at the shootout, I can take vids, stills if you/someone have/has a camera...

Yeah, Karl, me and several locals are gonna be there next Sat. Sold my bolt-ons so I'll be short. Gonna go 6" over when I get back. Bike is actually geared the same as when I have my shootout tire and big sprocket on. I switched it back to street gearing and tire after the first shootout earlier in the year and lost the mph instantly. Wasn't really sure whether it was indeed the weather or gearing making the difference.

BA, I've never been able to get to WFO in first gear, especially with it short. I guess I tend to play it safe since I'm not much good at controlling wheelies downtrack(chicken!). I was trying to lower my 60's the other nite but only got the wheelies instead. I'm sure there's room for improvement though. I rarely get the front tire off the pavement at all.

hey Ken, in light of some video I was looking at earlier tonight of myself, your comment about the front wheel is pretty funny. See,...I can't seem to EVER launch WITHOUT the front wheel coming off the ground!! I mean, I stay in the throttle and try to clutch it gently back down, but damn, according to the video, that's all I do!

I'd LOVE to be able to launch quick and NOT wheelie but I think that's an oxymoron with a stock arm!

Gotta love the cheap/quick tweaks.. I did almost the same thing recently - went from 17/48 to 16/47, and picked up a few hundredths from my 330. Makes it a bit tougher to keep down, but feels better all tolled.

Got a new personal best in Rockingham last weekend - 9.23 @ 148 - a 5.97 1/8th. I was psyched. Backed it up with a 9.25 lined up with wonderboy Ryan Schnitz (he made another ho-hum 9 sec pass on his 600.. )

Probably not, NOS. Schnitz could probably get a Katana 600 into the 10s!
