Man you really missed out....Hell in the 70s if you had a bike that run high 11s or low 12s you were the man ... Top speeds of 135 to 140 were unheard of ...The CBX broke gound with an add that said ( The 79 CBX would break the nations speed limit in first gear ) The CBX would cover the 1/4 mile in the low 11s with a good jocky and was the first motor to come from the factory with over 100 hp at the crank... Seems slow these days with our zx14 making 180 hp plus to the rear tire ...lol.... I tell you back in the 1979 if someone told me in 26 years we would have a motorcycle that runs 8 second 1/4 miles on a stock motor and can run 200 in a standing mile, i would have said you are one crazy mofo .... I wonder what the next 20 years will bring ...

Man you talk about a gold mine! I do all refinish work for a cbx restoration company in GA and FL. They sell those fuckers all day long for 20 large fully restored. Have a waiting list a mile long too. Persomally I think they are pigs but that sound is all its own with a six into one! I think I have painted every one ever made sometimes. Been doing 2-4 a month for 6 years and have a 4 month backlog. If anybody needs any parts or upgrades see TIMScbx.com they are THE people on those bikes. They also sponser an ARMA roadrace bike that is doing very well in the series.

What is up with the quick revs at launch? Was that a common technique back in the day?

He was spooling the turbo up....CBX had a short stroke and it was hard to get the boost up quick.....

I think what is most amazing about the video is that the best time I saw the CBX make was a 8.575 @152.35. It is an all out drag bike, not even remotely street legal. Consider that 'Smokin has posted a time of 8.84@154.63 on a pretty much stock ZX-14...........a faster trap speed and only .265 of a second slower! This is on a bike he could ride to and from the strip............now that is impressive!

Barry Eastman's CBX used to run mid 7's, this guy used to buy Barry's old parts! I had RC CBX turbo pistons in my old alky 750 turbo too.
Barry's bike, not sold as it says on the CBX site, just permanently retired

This turbo CBX is for sale on e-bay for over $20K right now. I think we are getting ready to see a resurgence in classic metric bikes now that the Harley thing is so played out.

Say what ya want, it is a bygone era, a good era at that, and as much as a pig it may have been, it broke th mold and played a part in where we are today.
.... and that turbo version would make every hair follocle on your body oscillate and stand on end .... a squeeling banshee.... unique and diabolicle in its own way.
