First pass

Well made it to the track today....First pass on my 02 zx12r..
Wheel base is at 67"
18/50 gearing,(way off)..Gonna put the 17 tooth on...Went through in 4th gear(TOP OF 4TH).
1.59 60'-No spin,almost bogging the motor,leaving at 7000 rpm's with 30 psi in a sticky Shinko.(200/70x17) no need for the 200 size, IMO....
6.43 1/8 @114 mph shifting @ around 11,000 to 12,000
9.87 @ 143 mph, sceaming in 4th wanting 5th gear big time...
Only got 3 runs, really hot today...Still haven't checked the map in the bike. But it is running verry rich...Planning a dyno session before next track day...
I have a 17 tooth to put on...Will it still be streetable with that gearing???This is not gonna be a full out racebike...I say that now.But you all now how long that lasts...LOL....The clutch held together real good.Cooled it off between runs...Need more seat time too...
Dean broke his chain I think....
Thanks...
Paul..........

you have a 70 series tire on the back? That thing must be drag slick kinda tall.

17/50 seems abit much with a tall tire.

What year bike do you have? Got a billet basket in it?

Paul,
into the 9's on the first time out is FINE!!

At 67" with 17/50 you should be able to go deep into the 9's with a lil practice.

for street 17/50 and 67" you will have fun laying rubber

Just checked....It's 200x50/17....(50 series)....Thanks Turboblew for making me check that out....Already has all the clutch goodies in it...
I think I'm gonna take a couple of links out and put the 17 tooth on her...Maybe put the wheelbase at around 62 or 64....Thanks Entropy,I'm already layin down lots of rubba...Shinkos don't last long without some sort of throttle control.....LOL..I'm not looking to beat anyones records around this area...I'd be happy with some .40's or .50's....And still be able to ride to some nearby towns!!!!!!!!
C ya,
Paul........

You might consider shortening the bike and put a road race take off tire (180/55 or 190/55) if you're not going too crazy on the street. They run about $50 each.

40s and 50s should be no problem.

Id pull the power commander out (if you have one) and see how the bike runs without it.
Took mine out and never found a need to reinstall it. Matter of fact I think the PCs are fornicating in my tool box cause there is 4 of them sitting there unused....lol

I do have the PC3 in it...I'm going to get it custom mapped to see if there will be any drivability advantage. It has a really weird flat spot just off idle. Then I'll go from there...It is running rich..
I do think I have too much tire on it right now(for the track)...On the street it spins up quicker than shit...It didn't even try to spin at the tack...Kept going up the the tire pres. 5 psi at a time starting at 15 psi and ending at 30 psi...I was trying to get her to break loose just a tad...Ran out of time...I think I could have just wacked the throttle(was leaving at 7000,and sliding the clutch) and slammed out the lever, but I didn't want to break something....
Thanks for the input, and caution on the fornification of PC3's(LOL).....

I was happy...I just thought I could have done better on my end...I've been racing a ZRX bike for the past few years. They shift at around 8 to 9,000 rpm's and limiter hits at 11,000 or so...Compared to the ZX12R at 11 to 12,000....Different seating and handle bars style...I think with some more seat time I can get a little better...My ZRX1100 only had a 3" over swingarm..My zx is set at 10" over right now...
see ya,

I usually run 17/45 and I wouldn't want to take long trips with it.

Dammit man...I just put my 17 tooth on...What a difference...Seems to put the power right in the sweet spot...Love it..Like you say Ted...Wouldn't want to go on any long trips...That put me with 17/50..(2.94)..It'll work..Help me get off the line ALOT easier,as pointed out in other posts..
Is that what your racing with Ted???17/45??...Will keep ya posted.

Ya,Lowered it all the way to bottom hole, and put the strap on the front end...Only got one pass that day...9.52@145mph...Still no good 60' foot time YET......I was helping my wife to ride my dragbike,so I really didn't have time to ride my bike....I think I can get it to come down some more on the E.T....But just the 2 thing's that I changed(lowering&strapping)made a difference....
See ya,
Paul........
