John Lawson is coming (as a spectator) from Dubai.
This bud of mine, a Brit motor head, has wanted for some time to see what these "flyers" are all about. Bikes, ralley cars, quads, he's into all of them.
The Bikeland Texas Mile pit crew now = Cristina Osti + Eva Nichole + John Lawson
Sounds good.

Good news on the damper. Thanks.
No big rush on the temp switch. Whenever you get to it is great.
Thanks.

2 Questions . . . Do you have to pre-enter, what kind of savings?
And as far as the kill switch and chain guard, will a tether attatched to thumb switch pass,
and is stk chain guard acceptable? (ZX14)

Pre-entry saves you 10 or 20 bucks.
YOu have to have a metal chain guard. The OEM plastic one will NOT pass tech. The tether attached to the rocker switch I don't think will pass tech either. Not 100% sure on that one. I would just buy one to be sure to pass tech. They aren't that expensive. 40-50 bucks.

Well I'm definately in. Warp12 and I are coming from the Washington DC area....1500 miles each way! He is still on the fence, worst case scenario if DrRyan backs out I'm heading up solo.
Aside from the normal set-up I run @ Maxton I got a metal chain guard, Carbon Fiber BST wheels, tranny fully done by R&D (nos drum and all), Carpenter valve springs.
Looking for close to 205 mph but 200.xx will put me in the books and I'll sleep at night.
I was gonna run 2 bottles but with a 40 shot it would not be "worth it", so single bottle runs it is! I should have enough juice for 5 solid spray passes and 1 shitty one.
Hope to see you guys there. Haven't made hotel reservations yet because I'm not sure who I'll is coming with me, if anyone! Boricua said I could crash @ his room on one of the nights he will be there but I'll have to see how the other night works out logistically.
Any spot nearby a few 12s can line up and have it it for....oh....a mile or so?? Heh heh....

Shiphteey,
Sounds good. Look forward to meeting you. I would like to talk to you about bonneville. I may be heading out there soon. I feel you on the drive to Texas. Mine is about 1300 miles each way.

Yep, better to be safe than sorry. Cheap and easy to install a new one (well it took me awhile but that's nothing new). If you wanted to inquire ahead of time, they are very responsive and friendly. Send an email and ask to speak with someone over the phone. They'll supply you with a contact. If the person tells you it should be fine, be sure to get their name and document what they said.

I want to get the best speed possible out of my bike but I need some advice on what gearing to use. I have a stock 2000 ZX12R with a full Ti Muzzys exhaust. ( No juice, just motor ) Other extras too but not really anything that will help me with top speed. One thing I have going for me is my weight... 148 pounds. Any serious advice will be heeded. Also, just so I'm not disapointed, what should I expect to run? Keep in mind, I'm not a rookie racer. I've been doing this for a while, I've just never made top speed passes on my 12 before.

With stock gearing (196 mph) you can expect 180s, give or take. I ran 185 @ Maxton with -2 in the rear. If you are going to be running as stated I'd stick with stock or 18/47 (+1 in the rear) which should be good for about 191 on the limiter. You should still have enough chain for it hopefully. TX is supposedly a little tough because although its smoother and straighter than Maxton, TX is more prone to headwinds. I would gear 18/47 and if you are coming thru on the limiter or 100-200 rpms from it then consider going back to the 46 tooth.
Tailwinds: 190+ (unlikely)
Normal: 180s
Headwinds: 170s.
Good luck! I will be bringing my sprockets so if you don't have a 47 and wanted to try the stock set-up first go right ahead. You can borrow my 47, its for the OEM rear wheel and since I'm gearing for 200+ I probably won't be using it...and I'll be on carbon fiber wheels too.

Thanks shiphteey... Right now the bike is set up for the quarter mile. That's all I ever do is drag race. This bike never see's the street. For racing only. The gearing right now is 16/49 and I know that will have me bouncing all over the place but it makes for some nice qrt. mile passes! I will bring some rears but... should the front be 18 regardless?
Another quick question. Do they allow racers to camp out out the track? I usually just spend the night in my race trailer. Is that an option at Texas Mile?

Definately have the 18 on and adjust the rear accordingly. I wasted time swapping the 17 and 18 @ the track....valuable time!
I have never been to TX yet so others will probably chime in w/regards to camping out, etc.
To save time I would show up with 18/46 or 18/47 already on the bike. Saves you wrenching time. Gives you more time to make passes and see what is the right gearing considering your shift points may vary slightly, wind changes, etc.

You can NOT camp at the track unless you have an RV or Motorhome. No tents or anything like that. They have quite a few coyotes there so they don't want people outside at night. They put syanide(sp) traps out for the coyotes but they still get a few I guess. I'm not sure about sleeping in your race trailer. The only restrooms are port-o-johns so I don't know how you would shower or brush your teeth etc. etc...

+1 I believe there is something in the registration form that you have to check if you're sleeping in a trailer. Looks like there's an extra 25 dollar charge for motor home.
