change in "new post" algorithm

it took me a while to get to it, but i finally got to one of the requests for changes/improvements in the forum, namely the per-forum "last visited" cookies. u will now find that the decision as to which forums/threads had new posts is made on a per forum basis.

while i was futzing around with that (takes forever to find out how they'r doing it, what with the battle (or lack of) coding styles, and complete lack of commenting in the code), i played with how the system decides when u'r last visit was. basically, if u just go and view the list of threads in a forum, and do nothing else, it will set ur last visited time to the time you viewed that list. so the next time you come back, all those threads will be marked read (unless they'v been updated of course). however, if you go and actually view a particular thread, your last visit time will be set to the time of the last post on that thread. so if you now go back to the list of threads in the forum, everything BEFORE THAT THREAD will be displayed as "new". it's hardly a perfect algorithm, but i think it will work better that what was in place before, particularly for people who dont use the back button much. if you do use the back button alot, it will fuck up at times. i am gonan try to work on that.

anyway, please let me know if u have any problems with the new setup. the more feedback i get (negative feedback is esp useful), the more i can adjust and improve the system.

that is all
