Lock ups can be a pain to setup.....not sure if I understand how much weight or springs you have in yours ? First thing you need to do is set it as it came to you out of the box. You also need to find out how much "static" pressure it has. To check the static pressure find someone with a valve spring checker. Set it to the installed height of 1.146" and see how much pressure is on the springs. Add up the pressure from all the springs and thats the "Static pressure" of the lock up. This static pressure controls the first 10 to 20 feet of your launch depending on the gearing. If your aggressive with the clutch you'll want less static pressure. If you want to throw your clutch away at the line you'll want even less....
Don't be afraid to experiment !! If you have 6 springs try just 4...but keep track of the static pressure number so you can see what's helping and whats not. And yes you can shim the springs if you need more pressure.
The arms and weights start controling the clutch 20 feet out.... The less weight the further down the track I'll lockup.... Again don't be afraid to experiment....... Try no weights. I know of some people that have even removed some of the arms.
If the bike wants to do wheelies further down track you'll need to be removing weights.
For example.... I use to run a lock up in my 12 before I went to a slider and I only had three of the six springs in mine with the static pressure being around 130 lbs. (stock spring pressure was around 270 lbs)
Do just one change at a time because you can get lost pretty quick......Hope that helps, Roy

then repeat......
only change one thing at a time, and clutch temp is also important.........., rpm counts as a change...........

Are you using factory gaskets?? If so see if Cometic makes a clutch gasket for your bike. They are better than the factory gaskets in that they can be reused many times over....The stock ones seem like they are good once and tend to leak if used over again.
Give us the low down on how your bike is set up ???

Roy, that is funny, I have taken the cover off of mine at least 30 times this year, probably 40 or so last year, and still on the same gasket, , stock........
I always keep two extra, but usually never need em............., dont over torque em.!!!!!!!!!
How is the slider workin? I did some high 1.3s with no bars, but it was too violent at the time, did some trickery with gear ratio, and found a 1.41 the other night, but that was in OK, and at night.
I got back home in the day heat, and it went to like 1.45s or 1.46...........
I think I need more burnout, on the MCR.............., but damn, i hate to use it up..........., shinko wont work, but oh well..............., 13 finals, in 20 events this year, bracket and heads up aint too shabby............, in and out of state..........
how is the slider, you in the 20s yet?

You've had good luck with that gasket I couldn't get them to last at all....maybe My spacer plate isn't really true ?? But like I said I have very good luck with the cometic gasket. The best short time so far is a 1.33 and the best E.T. was a 9.03 but not at the same time. Right now with the hot weather it's doing consistent 1.43. I've got a bunch of stuff I want to try and I'm sure I can do high 1.20's and the eight's are possible, but it's so dam consistent right now I don't want to touch a thing...... I'm tied for 4th, 10 points out of 3rd right now in pro-et

You guys are prime canidates for data loggers. Watching the engine rpm and pressure plate rpm as well as tire speed Chris

1969ca, I had the lock up in my zx12. It is a pro-et setup. Slick, wheelie bars, 2-step etc... So my set up would be no good for you. I'm running a slider right now and love it ....

The lockup spacer is probably not true...I think some one on this site or the 12.org site had a fix...I think they lapped the surface on glass plate and solved their leaking problem.
01zx12r is right we are a prime candidates for a data logger....

Wow, I thought I was doing bad in the heat doing 1.45s........
This was Friday night, in OK, at a Outlaw shootout, basically run what you brung........, This was my fastest pass spinning, but did not do too bad, this is a 1.41 short time......., 3000 DA air, spinnin the top as well.................
This is what a lockup should sound like, ......, pretty smooth, and if you look hard, I toss the clutch............, give me a break on the light...........
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xmt8K_nZoKw
It boggs a little out about 60 ft or so, cause it spun a hair and the weights came in a little early..........

Yes sir, your doing just fine with those short times..... The video looked and sounded good.
I'm starting to like 1/8 mile racing. I've run most of the SEMDRA races and some local 1/8 mile stuff. You got to have your act together and it doesn't give you a lot of time to be looking around for the other guy during a bracket race. I've run as fast as 5.70's @ 120.
P.S. I can't resist but you sure were asleep at the light on that video

My best with bars, back when we were swapping info was 1.31, 3.72, 5.72, at 124, at a 1/8 mile bracket race, in like april, at night............, that was with stock pipe, open header, and no pc........., 16/56 gear, top of 4th in the 1/8th........., track had to be awesome to hold it though, and we ended up backing off that set up, it was too violent, and RRR would not hold it, it would have run 8.9s in the 1/4 like that, if RRR would have held it..........
I do miss doing those 4th gear burnouts.............., I have thought about going to 73 or 75 inches, and a slick, and running the two step, with no bars, but Street Et money is better right now in this area, if pro et money comes back, this thing will look badass with a slick at 70 something inches, I have the same arm as you, but mine is 10 to 16 over...........
I like 1/8 mile too, trick is, dial .01 under what you think it will run, and run it out the back door every pass..........
also, i like it better, cause you can cool down faster between rounds...............
I really dont know what is up with that track, there are always numbers up on the tree....., not sure if that was my light or not, but I had some wheel spin, i would not have been that bad...., but oh well........, everyone can screw up now and then......, i dont have the magic button like you............lol
Glad you are doing well........, call if you need anything................

I wasnt cutting anyone down or commenting on ability to tune, I was only making a suggestion. I have actually 2 systems to monitor clutch on my bike and actually will be selling one very soon.
If anyone is interested in a v50 from Racepak let me know

Test............., repeat..............
What works for you, will not work for me, and what works for me, will not work for you.........., what works for another guy wont work for anyone else........, HP, total package weight, how you release the clutch, all plays a part in it
there is a small window for the sweet spot, but when you find it, it will hook when no one else will, and be smooth as glass.........
What springs do you have now? What wb are you at? How much weight on the arms?
How much do you weigh, and what RPM do YOU like to leave at, ie, where can you hold it good and smooth, without it jumpin around.........

It has 2 rpm signals for clutch, 1 engine and battery voltage. I purchased the live data option so I could verify settings without having record a sesion. It also comes with a remove located record button....$600. azx12rush@aol.com

So you can verify how much clutch slippage you have, compared to rpm, and wheel speed?

Yes, I actually have 2 different data loggers on the bike right now. The DL-32 im now using with do much more than JUST watch slippage of tire and clutch. I no longer need the v50. I watch the speed of the pressure plate, rear wheel and engine rpm with either system. Alot of work hooking up everything and making sensor brackets, pick-up points, etc etc but yes...Works well too. The v50 was bought new for 900 and I added the live view function for another 150. So you can watch clutch speed (v50) or clutch speed as well as air/fuel ratio, tps, up to 32 possible different channels with a DL-32. Chris azx12rush@aol.com
