expander rings: 87mm vs 85.3mm

I have Buddy's and my builds going on side by side and noticed that the 1270 kit has expander rings which are under much more compression when installed than the 87mm billet kit's. Both are JE pistons.

anyone know why???

Bueller?..., Bueller?..., anyone?..., anyone?...

Karl, I had the same "problem" when I built my 1270 motor. It turned out not to be a problem after all. It just took some carefull assembly and patience to get it together. The picture I posted isn't linked anymore, but I can find it and email if you want to see what I was talking about..

zx,
i remebered your "problem" when i encountered this issue, and did a search, read yr info.

It convinced me that there is nothing wrong with the 1270 rings, i just wonder why the biilet block's expander rings aren't so "problematic".

But i would be really grateful if you find the photos and send em to me

i talked with JE and they said that the rings on the 85.4 pistons (1270 kit) are sourced by Muzzy from Kawasaki as OEM rings off another model; thus they are not "made to order".

The Billet block kit with its 87mm pistons have made to order rings (i believe).

Both set ups work just fine; the 1270 kit expander rings are just a bit tighter,

case closed???
