Cam Tensioner

I'm no expert on the subject, but 3 mechanics I know who have been in the business for decades say it's SOP to install a manual tensioner on High Performance engines. They all claim that the automatic ones have been know to back out, "Specially when you're putting lots of juice to em."

Don't think i've not heard of one to fail on a zx12.
Many more problem from mis-use on manual than stock failures.
If it were a suzuki no doubt .

Yep. I agree.

Suzuki had some problems but I haven't heard of any on the 12.

You can cause the OEM tensioner to fail by forgetting to put the foot at it's min setting before installing...

Years ago, ZX12 Cam Tensioner failures were reported on this board.

the only ones i know about is Harry's and mine, and mine was my fault.

I had the steel rod which holds the clicker fail (just like Harry), but I am SURE it happened when the tensioner was incorrectly installed.

as that fumble-fingered, half-assed, shade-tree mechanic said above:

"You can cause the OEM tensioner to fail by forgetting to put the foot at it's min setting before installing..."
