drag racing with Dymag magnesium wheels?
shortly after getting my 12 in May 2000 I put Dymag 5 spoke magnesium wheels on it. Love the wheels they are lighter and in my opinion look better than the OEM red wheels. I have had no problems with them other than getting replacement Talon sprockets from Andrew at Superbike Racing.
Does anyone know if the Dymags will hold up under hard dragracing using a MT shootout tire. Up to this point I have been using a Bridgestone 010 with a stock swingarm with no apparent problems. This winter I installed a JMC swingarm setup for 4 inches over stock. With the MT tire and longer arm I figure on being able to leave a lot harder than with the stock arm and 010 tire. Andrew at superbike says the Dymags are designed to handle all the HP a factory superbike puts out so no problem. what do you guys think, would you use a dymag for dragracing on a 195 HP ZX-12?

Good question. A racer on this board uses a Marchesini mag wheel. His bike has roughly 160hp and he uses a shootout tire also. I think his 60's are in the low 1.5s. I think I might try to find a spare used stocker so you don't have to mess with mounting and dismounting tires often, but that's just me. I'm kinda lazy. Sprockets for the stockers are easy to get and relatively inexpensive also.

there is no problem with switching tires krexken. I plan to use the bike strictly for dragracing this season. am in process of installing Muz air shifter, shift light and dropping bike as low as possible so no more street miles this season. am strictly concerned about whether Dymag rear is strong enough to be safe in this application. The cush drive on the Dymag is minimal compared to the stock wheel and the Dymag is 6-1/2 pounds lighter than the stock wheel.
Don't know that the lack of a more robust cush drive is a problem since race wheels for drag racing don't have any cush drive. It's probably not a problem I am just looking for advice.

Thanks Jess but I can't get on Suzukihyabusa.org, it is closed to new members. I did get on the Suzuki owners group board and did a search for Dymag but found nothing. This board does'nt look like a lot of hard core dragracers use it but I posted a question about the Dymags anyway. If you or anyone else who posts here is a member at Suzukihyabusa.org I would appreciate it if you would ask over there for me. There seem to be a lot more guys racing Hyabusas than ZX-12's and hopefully someone has direct info on this.
thanks again, john

I would assume as long as you have the carrier update on the wheel and locktight the nuts, everything should be fine.
You may have to check your cush drive inserts more frequently though.

dymags
John in my opinion the Dymag will be fine strengthwise, but check with Pooh on LaBusas or www.200mph.org.uk for cush drive problems - he drags a Busa with Dymags. I had the same problems as him with a CMA rear years ago and replaced the cush drive rubbers with aluminium sleeves on my comp bike.

thanks guys
thanks to everyone for responding. Lorcan thanks for you're input several months ago on the JMC swingarm. I bought one and the quality is very good. Price was better than anything I could find elswhere, probaby because of favorable exchange rate.
