Adjustment of manual cam chain tensioner! on 2002 zx12r
How do you adjust the manual cam chain tensioner and after it is adjusted how often do you re-adjust or check?

With the locknut slackened off turn the motor over by hand and screw in the adjuster bolt finger tight. Keep turning the motor over until the bolt won't go in any more with your fingers, then back it off one flat and tighten the locknut. Never had any guidance on how often to recheck but every 1000 miles seems reasonable.

I almost do it this way, turn the engine over by hand (In the normal direction of rotation) and while in motion turn the adjustor in by hand until it is snug (Using 2 fingers "Thumb and forefinger"). then I stop everything and put a Box end wrench on the adjustor and snug the lock nut with an open end wrench. then with a box wrench I tighten the Lock nut
Every few races I check mine. I put on to box end wrenches and making sure I do not move the adjustor I un-lock the nut. Then I turn the engine over again to see what if anything I have gained or loss. I do not expect anything to change and if more than a Minute adjustment (1/8 turn max), I would pull the valve cover to take a look at the sliders

Just hear of a different way more positive but more time consuming!
Check the deflection of the chain between the cams sprockets. About 1/8 inch up and down for 1/4 total movement!
