I'm off to Goliad, hoping to put a Kawasaki on the books amongst all the Busas.
Good luck Buddy. Kick some ass!!

Sorry, guys. I had the power and the desire. All I lacked was the technique and the set up.
I did gain a little knowledge for October. I know that to just put a gear on a drag bike set up and pin the throttle doesn't make for a 200 MPH run.
It was fun tho.

My first run was 180 and I couldn't do better. The really long swing arm on my bike along with a street tire didn't work well. The spin in the lower gears was uncontrollable under power. Just had to ease on the throttle to keep from going sideways, so the first quarter was pretty slow. When the speed got up, the shifter wouldn't shift the gears, I guess the tire was spinning all the way. I had to help the shifter, especially in 5th to 6th. Also, I think I went too low on the sprocket, 18 and 42. I wanted to hit the nitrous at the 3/4 but was afraid of wheel spin at about 170.
Like I say, I learned quite a bit. Next time, I will try a stock arm and maybe a Shinko 200 and probably about an 18 and 44.

18/45 should net you a tick over 200....if thats yer goal.
amazing how many people just assume they can hit 200mph (i know i was one) given what they ride.
events like these are humbling....and point out how much ridiculous bullshit is passed around at most bike nights
are you done for the weekend buddy?

Buddy,
As you found out, it is a BUNCH more difficult then twist & go 200mph, but at least you were there doing it while i was honey-doin' it Set up is part of it, but technique of acceleration and tuck position makes a pretty big difference.
Brian,
sorry about no fun this weekend, yesterday was house maint day, and today(Sunday), i am tweaking stuff on my bike. I dented the shit outa my Brock SW midpipe last weekend so i am down till Brock gets me a new one this week.
On sprocket choice for a target slightly over 200. I did a bunch of races with a Busa, 2mi straight 3yrs ago, and found that 18/44 got me 201 on gps, whereas 18/45 put me into the limiter at 195-198mph. The tire was apparently slipping at max mph, cause i shimmed the shit outa the clutch and i don't think it was slipping.
For Oct, I will put on stock length swingarm, get a sticky RR tire, 18/43 or 44, U2 or C-44, doublebubble screen and see what my ever-suffering NA zx12 can do.
Oct is gonna be a busy mo
10-6 - MIR bikeland grudge race
10/21 - Texas Shootout
10/28-29 - Texas Mile
but the timing is right; after the TXO, i'll replace my 10" over trac with a stock arm etc and go to the mile.
Buddy, Osti, Brian, Mike: You travelers up for this? Youse are welcome at Hotel Entropy! My wife likes visitors cause her husband is so boring, but be prepared to tell her yr life story (in detail)
JohnnyCheese, Matt and others are thinking of the mile in Oct so lets get it together!!!

YCIS,
I am done for the weekend as far as the Mile run. I already put my drag tire on the bike and went home. I will be at the track today, but drag racing.
I was one of those who didn't think it would be too difficult to run 200, and it is totally humbling.
I'll do better next time.

"Russ went down at the top end of the track. They said he went through the beams at 204 and a gust of wind caught him and lifted the bike. He came off the bike and the bike went flipping down the shut down area. He is ok, and the prelim report is he might have fractured his shoulder. LifeFlight was called in and they are gonna take him to Corpus Christy to check him out. 3B is taken care of his stuff. I didn't get a chance to see the bike before we had to leave. It is extremely windy down here today."
"Update, just got off the phone with Bryan and Russ is ok! He has some rash and broke is clavical. The bike is tore up, but the motor, turbo system, and electronics look to be ok. Russ said when he went through the trap he sat up and got on the brakes and the front end got light and washed out"
YIKES!!!!!!!

Yeah, that sucks about RussMan, they actually took him over here to Austin. I'll be
dropping in to see him in a little while. Glad he is OK. His best on Saturday was
209mph. The wind was calm in the morning on sat, but started to pick up to
about 8-10mph with 15mph gusts, Sun. suppose to be a little worse.
Grabbing a hand full of that brake does tend to happen a bit at least at the drags.
First time anyone went down at the Mile though.
Buddy will be back doing 200mph in October. It was a last minute thing and he did
not have much time to get all set up. Traction is not like the drags, but the track is still
smooth as glass at speed. Buddy if your going to the next Texas Shoot Out I'll bring
a stock swing arm I have. I would give the 18/44 a shot first as there is always some amount of wheel spin at speed. Extending the rev limiter is always nice for a little cushion
if you'll be running a touch of Nos.
The Guys At The Mile are some classy people BBB and his girl rider out of AZ transported Russ's bike and truck back to Austin, A good 3-4 Hours drive in the opposite direction they were head. They just met this weekend too. Racetrack 14, wife and his duaghter 9 second Jen who also run at the Texas Shoot Out were there to assist. Props also to the Mile people as from what I hear were on top of it giving the best care available with excellent communication.
About 20 bikes showed for the event.
Fastest Bike For March 2006 RussMan turbo Busa at 209 and change.
TrickTom Stage 1 Ghetto 200.1 I believe
Buddy ZX-12 I believe ran 181 and change or 182
9secJen Busa 183 (Stock Busa with pipe, shifter and PC, She was moving)
RaceTrack 14 Busa upper 179 or 180
MadDog turbo Busa 198-199 ( last Oct was ran 215, having problems this time)
2 other ZX-12's out, a ton of Busas, R-1, couple Harleys, New BMW was running under 160 and a laydown landspeed ride.
It is a very humbling experience as the first time I went out on my stock foot shift 00 ZX-12 I thought 190 no Problem, but could only manage in the 170's. A year and a half later Put a little juice on and best pass was 195.74. This October I should have a touch bigger motor,
but I'll keep my sites a little lower and hope for 200.00mph.
HOPE TO SEE A BUNCH OF ZX-12's DOING 200+ IN OCTOBER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I hope to be there at the Texas Shoot Out and will pick up the arm. Thanks. I've located a Bonneville box locally, so should be in good shape for October.
I didn't catch the name but now realize Russ is the guy we were talking to next to us. Sure glad he wasn't hurt too bad.

Yep, and BBB was right next to him with the Orange Busa and the girl rider. 9 second
Jen and her dad Racetrack 14 were on our other side. They will be running at the Shoot
Out in Houston also. They Life Flighted him to Austin and my bro and I will drop in on
him at around 3:30 today. Heard he got his bell rung pretty good also, will give you all the update after the visit. He had High def. video running all saturday but I think he was
going to take it off for his Sunday runs.

Visited Russ in Hospital yesterday, he is doing well. Leathers Held up very good
only a little hole. Helmet held up very, very good, just scratched from sliding. Russ
ended up with Fx clavicle, Fx scapula in 5 pieces, and a lot of purple on the left side
(no pins, plates or screws, just a little natural healing).

He did say that he was leaning a littlle, popped up out of the screen,
and hit the brakes kind of hard. The front end just washed out on him
and before he new it he was on the ground.
Get ready for some new saftey rules after this, might have to get our
butts pierced to safety wire it to the seat. Ha, Ha, Ha, just kidding about
the saftey wire.
