Bikeland Welcomes Brock's Performance as our newest sponsor!
Not only is Brock a cool guy to hang out and party with in Vegas, but he happens to make some kick-ass bits that help make motorcycles go fast! Brock has all sorts of stuff for bikes, including both Suzuki and Kawasaki. Many of you may know Brock from his historic run in May 2000 when he became the first rider ever to run a street legal motorcycle in the 7's.
Brock is planning on diving head first into the ZX-14 world, so look to him for tips on how to get even more out of this bike, especially on the dragstrip.
You can check out his ad on the frontpage and in the main forum's index, and visit his online store by clicking here . You can find out even more about him by visiting http://www.brocksperformance.com/

So Brock...I've gotta question fer ya.
I have had many bikes over the years...each one with serious mods and engine upgrades. 1st thing to be done was always exhaust, PC and airbox, but in every case with either the Jap or the Iron bikes ...unless I did H/C or bottom end, I always lost low end grunt...and they always said that woudn't happen...they lied!
For that reason only, I never touched my 10R, only because I didn't want to fuck wth the low end. I know we have that variable flap in the exhaust that controls low end TQ and figured that any aftermarket exhaust change would blow that feature away on a full system setup. Same reason I dont want to make changes on the 14...
I ride in the street and dont really care about performance gains at 8K+...but I would like to change the exhaust on both bikes. I want sound/looks and reduced weight. I want a 4-1 for the 14. I dont want to do any engine mods either as its just a waste of $$ for me....I keep changing bikes every year, so its thrown out cash. Any thought on how I can get all that and not give up any low end TQ?? Im not looking for more power, just not looking to lose any either, especially at the bottom end of the revs.

Fastestbusaaround,
As far as we are concerned, the flapper in your exhaust is used more as an emissions tool than a torque booster—It's marketing BS to make you not hate such a device installed in your exhaust.
Road racers need more low-end power than anyone, especially with the taller gearing they are forced to run. SO WHY won't you find a SINGLE competitive road race bike with the stock "ex-up style" valve in place?
When we build an exhaust for maximum power and torque, many factors are involved: tapered head pipes, tube diameter/ length/configuration, etc. The factories usually stay with smaller tube systems for a broad power band at most RPM's. As a performance-based company, we concentrate more on mid-range and peak power because a single gear ratio change will more than compensate for any low-end power gains through exhaust design.
The ZX-14 should act much like a Busa, but should not require a gearing change because of the transmission ratios in the gearbox. Here is a dyno chart comparing stock exhaust to our Generation 3 on a Busa:
http://www.brockracing.com/dyno_charts/charts/Gen3Busa87Octane_800.jpg
There may be a 2-3 hp loss for about 3 tenths of a second below 4K, but I can tell you that you will be accelerating FAR too quickly to feel it! You also loose over 20 lbs.
The ZX-10 is the same way: http://www.brockracing.com/dyno_charts/charts/ZX10.gif
uncle zed: We use valve spring quality material to produce our clutch springs. Yours should wear out sometime in the year 2020 or so! FYI: We expect less than 3% sag over the life of the spring UNLESS they are accidentally compressed solid due to an assembly problem. If they are compressed, then they must be replaced.
Oliver, we are a bit late on all of our ZX-14 reviews, but we are close to finished:
http://www.dragbike.com/dbnews/anmviewer.asp?a=1906&z=2
I am compiling engine and clutch information for the final section to be added next week.

Thanks for the post Brock...I can see the huge gains you show on the chart, but also notice that below 3.6k the factor numbers are higher and thats what I am referring to. I noticed that on my Busa with Yosh RS3 Race slip-ons...I do notice huge gains above that though. I ran pretty much those exact numbers with the Yosh, PCIIIR and the airbox mod on my 04 Busa except peak TQ was about 103...peak HP was the same. But in driving, I noticed the loss of TQ at 3.5K and below and was always gearing down after the mods (call me crazy). You're right, on the mid and hgh end gains, but I am also looking at the sub 3.5K numbers and they were something I felt rather than just quoting numbers. My Dyno runs were also done on the DJ250. Here they are...
EDIT: I should have mentioned that the higher numbers are due to the mapping; all equipment was installed prior to the runs; they only did mapping to get those numbers and we never did a baselilne run prior to the installation of the add-ons
