Clutch Slipping????

After running this weekend 8-10 runs , with at least 10 mins between runs, on my way home I found that ONLY when
accel at 6500 rpm to 7500 rpm's in 6th gear ONLY, it feels like its slipping.. still pulls, just feels like its slipping.... HELP

No other problems and does not happen any other time ( yet )

input greatly apreciated, before I mess something else up.

10 min is not long enough between runs, you probably scorched it! open it up and check it out!

Mike is right...20-minutes MINIMUM!!!
First two runs (if bike wasn't ridden to the track) can be closer together but NO MORE after that...

Do you do "dry hops"???
ANOTHER... NO-NO!!! (if you want clutch to last longer)

hmmmmmm

" DRY HOPS " in simple laymans terms would mean...... ?
sorry, Im learning the lingo.

If I " scorched " the plate, wouldn't it " slip " in the
power band ie: 1st-2nd gears and lower RPM's ?

What am I looking for when the cover comes off....
ie: discoloration, chunks missing, etc.... ?

Thanks in advance

A dry hop is kinda like a practice launch that is done directly after the burnout, before you stage. It's kinda like puttin 2 passes in on one run. Some people, guilty like me, think it helps clean the tire before staging.

Generally a clutch is more likely to slip in 6th gear than any other.

You'll have to remove the pressure plate to get at the discs. Usually the steels will be very discolored in spots. Once the steels get badly discolored, they generally warp or get high spots which makes the clutch weaker since it's not using all surface area available.

If you plan on drag racing much, I'd seriously recommend a billet basket from Muzzy or Falicon and a Muzzy hub kit. Not cheap but it's cheap insurance. I've witnessed a couple of exploded stock baskets and the damage was extensive.

Yep, and besides the blue-black color & obvious high spots, a hint that the steels need to be repaced is when they don't wanna come out(warped/stuck), especially the inner ones...

you can get the Muzzy clutch kit directly thru Muzzy, call Dave Turner sales, line #2: 541 385 0706, or you can go thru yr favorite dealer; I went direct. Hey, as long as you are orderng stuff why not get the billet basket as well? The Muzzy kit comes with 3 heavier springs, no need for the ZX6r springs.

Ok, I have ordered the muzzy kit, question is, locate dealer
says that they can do a mod from kawasaki that does the same as the muzzy kit. ie: drill holes for more oil, heavy
9r springs, etc. And it will be free. OR They will credit me
the warranty pricing and I can pay the difference. What are your opinions on this option?

Ok Im seriously doubting your dealer can do as good a job on the clutch, as Muzzys or a qualified machinist.
Let them credit you the warranty work on the cost of the muzzy clutch hub. You will need to machine a flat spot on the clutch puller rod, regardless though. This allows more oil to be released into the clutch pack. Over all the clutch will still need 30mins between runs. Also run the 2.0 clutch steels. They are almost a 1/2mm bigger than the stock setup and a little more resistant to heat.
Clutches are just an ordinary expense when dragracing...lol

Yes I would definatly go for the credit and get the Muzzy kit. I have heard about the mod that they do but you know what I have never seen a mill or drill press in a dealer?? so that means they are drilling it by hand,, in my opinion that is just asking for trouble!! the muzzy kit works well. be carefull if you do the flat spot or drill a hole in the rod, or you can get to much oil and then it will just slip alot!
