I changed my plugs for the first time last week since I bought the 12 new in 2002...It has 3290 miles on it with over 800 DragStrip passes using MR9 fuel for 3 seasons...The plugs were Lt.brown and looks pretty good...I really couldnt tell if the new plugs made the motor smoother, seemed the same to me!!!

No but it is a Cheap Insurance in my book!
you can buy the plugs for 8-9 bucks at Oriely auto parts.. I did use irridum (sp?) plugs once and they do not last as long, I did notice a small difference when I put in new plugs after that, I would at the very least change them every year...

Should not platinum plugs be good for at least 50k on a motorcycle? i know they are good for 100k on a car.

I agree with Rick.. if I were just riding around, I would not change them. but for me anyway it is a good piece of mind..... kind of like drag racing your oil is probably good all year long, but I also change that every 3-4 races...

Well Gentleman...I can tell you that running my OE plugs for 29,000 mi. was not good for overall performance. The center electrode was "football" shaped and the gap was .038!

Funny how the plugs "looked" real nice just 7,000 mi earlier!!

DOH! That sucks.

I'm like Mike I change mine at least once a year. My bike is also a race only bike. Not much street duty.
