anyone had problems mounting an MCR2?
Took my new MCR2 to get it mounted on a stock rim and man o' man they had problems. Somehow, the beads were close together (maybe someone had a bunch of tires stacked up in a warehouse?) and they couldn't get the beads to seat.
The regular tire-guy had strapped it to no avail and gave up, but another wrench guy came along and strapped the shit out of it, then sprayed it with WD40, then put air into it while pushing on it here & there. Finally it started popping and seated.
They did not have one of those inflatable hoses I have seen car guys use. They damn near gave up completely.
I sure don't like the idea of WD40 on a tire, but the mech says no-problemo, just give it a day to dry out. This jives with what RedElk (and others) have said before, but it still makes me uneasy...

I went through a similar process. That was the least of my problems however. The MT I have now is so out of round it's ridiculous. I do long smoky burnouts now trying to get rid of the damn thing. I know I could have sent it back, but after paying shipping, and waiting a week at least to get another, the chances are decent I'd get another crappy tire. The last one I had took 80 grams to balance, and it was asymmetrical as well. I guess that's what you get with a soft carcass, and a cornered market.
Kevin came up the idea to buy 3 and return the 2 that won't balance. Good idea, but you have to pony up the extra $400, plus shipping. He bought one at Prostar, where the seller mounts it right there- that's what I'm gonna try in Atlanta.

I'll keep those things in mind. Probably mount mine this week. I usually use Palmolive to lube up the tire but I just noticed my new bt010 has spun 180 degrees on the rim and it hasn't even been to the strip yet. Kinda spooky.

Sometime UPS squishes them also (NOT the same way YOU do Karl! LOL)
NEXT time...you can try putting "something" in the tire to spead the beads apart (for as long as you can) before you take it to get it mounted...
Our 1st Shootout tire was the worst (so-far???) out of round tire we've had...
I've been joking (NOT that funny though) that..."they" must check all the tires when they come in and...save the round ones for THEY'RE Shootout Bikes???
At least if you buy one AT A RACE...you can take it back if they don't notice it (TRY to pass it off on you)...
The one John bought at the World Finals (still on bike) is the best one (it's ROUND) we've had so far
We still have a NEW one that we ordered and didn't get in time FOR THAT RACE...It was AT John's HOUSE when we got back from registering the bike AT THE RACE...DOH!!!
We are HOPE-ING IT is round when it comes time to use it!?!?!?

misery loves company!!!
Thanks for the responses guys. I thought I was alone in my troubles. It did take a bunch of those sticky little blocks to balance it, and now I have to worry about it being out of round also?? Oh, well, I will hopefully get it to the track this weekend and see how it goes.

I had a bitch of a time with my M/T also! When I did get it to bead up I took it to the local shop for balancing! When I went back to the shop they said it was a bitch to balance but didn't say if the tire was out-of-round!
After I got it on the 12 I went out on some speed runs (150-165mph)and all seemed well???

re-hash this old topic
My M/T tire was so out of round it was unridable. I rode 60 miles on it and made 4 passes and the bike just about shook me to pieces.
I took it back today to the local dealer, who broke the bead, remounted it, and put it on the balancer- STILL wacked. The tire was defective/out of round.
No questions asked they said they would order me another and remove the defective tire from my wheel; should have the replacement this week.
Just thought I would let you know that they said it's not uncommon for M/T tires..
