removing air filter

I was talking with someone about the air box on the 12 and wondered if there would be any performance gain by removing the air filters? Maybe use cheese cloth on the ram air inlets with the intent of making a bigger air box. Will it work? This all came about by asking why the busa makes more power with less mods. They thought it might be because the busa had a bigger air box.If the 12 is in such a high state of tune, then why can't it match hp at any given cc?

If the Earth is round, then why isn't it bigger than a baseball?

Actually back in the Carb days and the KZ engines we ran stacks all the time open. Personally I don't really care if it injest a little dust as long as rocks and shit don't find it's way in there. Nuttin last forever and motors are made to be rebuilt. Shit use some kind of screen and let it rip.

Usually it's the exact opposite. Stock for stock, the 12 already makes more horsepower with 100cc less. Every example I've ever seen has the 12 making as much or more power with less "cc".

Bergie has had good results with the stock filters with screens (foam removed), contrary to what you'd think.

I dont know if 1-2 peak hp is worth it, but YMMV.

As far as Busas being in a stronger state of tune stock....lol. Not even close. Adding just an exhaust to a Zx12 adds upwards of 20hp at peak. The Busa has a pretty good flowing exhaust stock (because of the dual pipes).
Typically a bolt on Zx12 makes 10hp or more than a similiarly equipped Busa. Busas just make more low end torque.

I was looking more at head work, cams and pipe.Even when my bike was a 1320,I was only 180hp,so that ruled out cc,s.As far as the air box,I was thinking in the line of cutting the brackets right out and seal off the access slots.I'm not an engineer,so I don't know if this would make a difference.I figured I'ld ask before I do something stupid if anyone else has tried this route. Now,if you compare this to VH,maybe it's just an east coast thing

Well if you have a 1320 at "only" 180rwhp....something is wrong.
Stock motored bikes make that kinda hp.

BTW, the Busa has economies of scale for parts availability. The 12 isnt that popular of a platform in dragracing.

Turbo...........Exactly how did he mod the stockers? This sounds way different than what I've read about before anywhere.

I cut out the foam element on the stock filters leaving only the screens in place. Did that 5 years ago, woah has it been that long? Dayum.
