yikes??? oil in the catch can??????
I have been getting oil in the plastic can which is at the end of the drain for the air box. About 1/2 of the can fills with foamy looking oil after a pass. The bike doesn't seem to be experiencing any decrease in power as I got a 9.170 with this happening. Is this normal?????? It has me worried...

How high is your oil level? Too much may force oil up there.

Ken,
my oil level is right at the mid point in the window.
This am I was talking with Steve at Orient Express about the Penske shock OE is having built for me, and I mentioned my bike puking oil. He talked with one of the OE mechanics, and they said that they have a 12 doing the same thing, not a probem, run a little less oil.
I am certainly willing to rip the engine down if there is something wrong, but sure don't want to do it if everything is cool.

Give Lees a call or maybe Doug has an answer. Doesnt sound normal to me but on a built motor I dont know. My (stock motor) 12 catch canister is still crystal clear.

Hi! I had the same problem, when you have oil in the middle of sight-glass you have 1/2 liter to much oil in your engine...
Drain and fill exactly 2.8 liters of oil in your engine if you also change filter and you will be fine!
It should be a instruction near the sightglass.

Thank you Catman! exactly 2.8l will go into my engine next time; I must have overfilled just a bit.

Same problem, until i removed my block offs and replaced the clean air. You are getting increased crank case pressure. Many people disagree with me, but removing those things stopped my oil leak and what your described "IMMEDIATELY"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Yep, it seems a consensus, Bear also says go a bit less than half a window on oil and pull a bit of a vacuum on the oil breather tube will stop the puking of oil. I am back to deciding whether to hook my breather into the reed valves or get FBG vacuum pump.
ra12, how is your project going? been to the track yet?

When I change my oil and filter and put exactly 2.8L in it, my oil level is above the 1/2 way point in the sightglass (this is before I crank the engine with the new oil in it).

That fbg vacuum pump is about 5 lbs and then to mount it.

Cowboy, I have one on the way, so I will give a report sometime soon. I am told it is 4# and will add 2-4 hp. I will definitely do a with and without dyno pull. Where to mount it will be interesting, bit I might have room in the trunk. We'll see.

Here we go again...
I have NO idea why taking the block off plates "solved your problem" (turbo810 had the same results) but they have NOTHING to do with crankcase pressure...
I have NEVER puked ANY oil on ANY of the ZX12 I've worked on that has the block-off plates...
ENTROPY...getting "small amounts of oil" can sometimes be a bi-product of going a lot bigger on CCs as you have done...
It is VERY common for "drag bikes" to loose any "extra oil" that is in the motor...
I KNOW it's not Apples to apples but we only put 3-quarts of oil in ALL our Kaw AND Zuk Race bikes that normaly take 4-quarts with a filter (street bikes)...
DO NOT run a quart less in a ZX12!!! I'm just saying that if we put the "normal" amount of oil in BIG BORE race bikes...they WILL lose oil out of the breather until they are at the level the are happy with...
I noticed that the Coby Adams ZX12 Super bike at the Prostar race HAS A VACUUM PUMP ON IT...

thx KC,
did you notice where Colby has his vacuum pump mounted? I'm getting a FBG pump and going to try it out soon. I know that the hp gain is minimal but the idea is interesting so I wanna see for myself.

They have the pump above the swingarm at the front...
I'll try to get a picture of it today!
