here we go again!

Got the call this morning on the way to a funeral, the bike is making alot of noise.Somehow they fried the jumper wire on the secondary battery for the 24 volt system.I was having them finish hooking up the bottle heater and wanted it on the primary battery.I get there this afternoon to bring it home and it sounded like shit.Freddie thought it might be the cam chain.Once home the bike barely made it up my driveway and sound like its running on one cylinder.I also had to pay for 5 spark plugs due to fouling while syncronizing. He said they might of ran the motor a little lean for awhile. What the f@#k!And all this cost me 777.25.This bike ran strong when I dropped it off.

I'm recharging the battery back up now.I pulled all the plugs and they're all wet.I want to wait in the morning to see if that matters. When I put it on the trailor, they had the ground for the blanket on the negative terminal(secondary battery).Trouble is when I have to start the bike,it goes positive.I don't no if this screwed up the ecu or PCIII.I'ld like to find out if I can test the PCIII by plugging it into the computer.I have no compression tester but I'll be draining the oil tomorrow and smell for gas.If it was leaned out enough to go through 5 plugs then my fear is the cylinders are compromised.

Checked for fault codes today, none past or present although I can't say any were erased previously.Oil didn't smell of any fuel at least. The motor sounds just like a two cylinder with that deep bass sound and pops occasionally at idle.

I pulled the head off and the pistons were wet and carboned but that wiped right off.Cylinders looked ok and no nicks on the pistons or head

I think we all need to know where this place is so we can avoid it! What did you take your bike to someone else for to begin with?

Well... When you pulled the head off you eliminated the compression test and leak down test . That would tell you if there is a ring problem, valves or blown headgasket. Might save you the trouble of taking the head off if the problem is elsewhere? Drain the oil and see if there is any copper particles in there? BTW... Did you check cam timing before you pulled the head off? Compression test would also reveal cam timing off if it jumped a tooth ?

Well,so far I've tested the coils which were a little over the limit,1.2 ohms.Pull the sump, some junk but nonmetalic in the screen,I did find the breather hose folded over on top of a shifter fork.I did find tiny silver bits in the oil when draining out my catch basin.I have no way of testing cam timing,I did mark them this time. The break cleaner fluid messes with my hep c and I had to lay down for an hour and a half.
As far as ECP, I don't want to trash Freddie as I really haven't found whats wrong yet.He called me throughout what was going on and was forthright about problems but didn't want to go further because he didn't do the motor work.
Does anyone have a head gasket for a SBM 1320 block?

Thats not good.. could be bearing material

Cam timing should have been checked with the valve cover off to make sure the marks on the cam are even with the head and the right pin count is there. You have no way of knowing now if it was off a tooth?

believe it or not, you can re-use the head gasket since you don't have that many miles on the motor

Thanx kzz1,I'll have to remember that about the head gasket. As I'll be spraying,I think I'll err on the side of safety and use a new one.

Split the cases when I got home from work today. This is getting kind of fun now that I went out and bought a couple of used air ratchets.I found a bolt that had backed out and was hitting the clutch basket. The bolt was for the starter motor clutch shaft. While this far I might as well check the bearings. They looked scratched and not polished. Now I was pretty anal about washing out the cases before assembly so either I screwed up or the bolt shavings got in there. Now, if I wanted to close up the tolerance on the rod bearings,doI go with the brown or blue inserts if I have the black inserts now? Also, do I have to replace the rod bolts?I believe the bolts are ARP.

YES, The Rod Bolts are Stretch Bolts and as opposed to measuring the Torque, you check the Bolt length when torque to make sure you have the right amount of Squeeze on the Rod. When using plasti Gauge, do the work with the Old Rod Bolts and Nuts. Then once everything is measured, replace the Bolts and use Synthetic Oil to dip the threads in to help avoid the False readings.

Also use a small amount of AntiSeize with a dab of oil on the case bolts to help save the threads!

If they are ARP bolts I would reuse them myself. Contact them and see what they suggest. I know Doug has posted that the stock bolts can be reused at least once.

I called Falicon Friday about the bolts. They have plenty in stock but that it is perfectly alright to use them a second time provided they stretch. As I have no way of measuring the stretch,I was just torqueing them an extra 5 ft./lbs.I'll use them again. One of the nice things about the Falicon rods(VH),was they gave me a tube of lube for torquing the bolts.
