data logging the oil pressure????

the LM-1 takes 0-5v dc as input and the oil pressure sensor seems to put out variable resistance.

I don't know what voltage goes to the oil pressure sensor and the manual seems silent on it. My bike is in many pieces so simply measuring the input voltage is not an option.

Any ideas on how to hook it up to the LM-1??

Doug? Doug?

anyone?

anyone?

Yo, Entropy. What oil do you usually run?? You do run a 15w-50 0r 20w-50 synthetic, right? The reason I mention it is because I run a oil pressure gauge constantly like you do, And I have noticed on my bike(a little ol 1387 streetbike) That when it gets SUPER hot temp gauge pushing 11 o'clock. At idle my bike is getting about 7-8 lbs of pressure, with the Mobil-1, 15w-50(red cap). I know if I was running a 10w-40 or less, oil pressure would be too low at idle for me! I also got my idle just a little high, 1250rpm or so(got that from the busa boys) . Not trying to go off topic here, just seems like you suspect oiling issues to be the main cause of your too numerous problems.

addison,
Yr info ifo is not off-topic at all !!! VERY much welcomed input.

I run castrol 10W-30 for "break-in", then immediately switch to Mobil-1 10W-30.

Like you and Doug Ray, I also have noticed the low oil pressure at idle, so I set my "idle" at 1500 or a bit more.

I will go to 15-50 redcap if that'll push the lo rpm oil pressure up.

My oil pressure woes have been from:
1. clogged oil pick up screen:
- i'm guessing a combo of excess YamaBond and clutch fibers caused the scum on the screen
- i'm going to a Coby pan & SW so I can clean the screen often without dropping the headers.

2. failure of the oil pressure relief valve:
- be careful about that fukken circlip if you just must shim the spring.

BUT, BUT, BUT!!!
On my last pass when I let off the throttle, i noticed the oil pressure take a big dive, then go up again. Hard to closely monitor the gauge at 155mph so I wanna log it.

I am hoping that the Coby pan will help/cure both accel and decel oil ?starvation? but seeing oil pressure on the log will tell the real story.

okay...i am going to suggest this ONE LAST TIME! (kidding)..

RUN Mobile one (I run Gold cap)or some type of syn oil.....15w50 or 20w50...it will help you out on the oil pressure at idle when hot...next RUN 5-6 qts of oil with that pan....next...

I have a 0-5 volt pressure sensor that reads 0-100psi they cost around $150.00- $175.00. This is what oyu need to logg oil pressure or fuel pressure. and LAST.....you let of the throttle and your pickup became exposed....due to the decell of the bike...run extra oil and that wont happen...JUST A NOTE...I changed my oil yesterday and cleaned out all oil lines ect ect....how about 7.25 qts!!!! NOW i do have a remote oil filter ectect...so this is more than the average user will use

both times I broke my bike in with the stroker installed. I used castrol 20w-50 GTX before going to the 15w-50 mobil1. Before I went to the stroker I ran the mobil mxt 10w-40. Craig Hansen of Flo-tec told me to only run 15w-50 or 20w-50 in the bike. btw, he uses the the mobil 1 15w-50 red cap in the bike 'duck' rides. I think you will find the heavier oil will bring up the oil pressure a little, especially when really hot. My bike was checked at 6500 miles plus about maybe 50 drag strip passes with 10 of those being nitrous dry shot assisted(a liitle over 250hp sae) Phill Stoll even took it down the strip once! With almost no bearing wear whatsoever! Mind you I have used carrillo rods since day one! I was told by Craig Hansen, the main reason the stock rods were not that great is because the stockers use nuts & bolts, instead of the bolts threading into the rod like the carillo's you could never really torque the bolts so that you would get a perfect circle on the bearing surface!! Not sure if that is true or not. But it sounds reasonable to me! Also my crank was NOT nitrided but rather got the cyrogenic treatment! If i am giving out secret builders info(I did not say it!! lol!)

Doug,
That's what I am looking for!

Could you give specific make & model of that pressure sensor?

I'm guessing that you put a "T" on the L side oil galley and mount both the OEM and the aftermarket sensor there???

THANKS!

I've shopped around a little and that's a good price. Here's some really nice stuff, but not cheap. I'd like to log oil, fuel, and boost, as well as A/F and RPM.

Hey Entropy, any luck finding a good source for transducers? I'm not sure I'd rather not drop $450 to log oil, fuel, and boost, so I'm looking for alternative sources.

OK, I just found a workable unit - Autometer sells a replacement fuel pressure transducer, 1/8 NPT fitting, 0-5V output, 0-100psi linear, $100. ATM-2246.

Dean,
Good sleuthing!!

I took the lazy man's solution; called Doug last week and asked him to send me a sender and a "T" so i can retain my stock sender also.

FYI - decided to go with a diff unit, it's $110, but includes pigtail, stainless housing, same specs.
