I set my idle high on the ZRX to get me about 18-20psi hot. I bet it's way low at 1200rpm.
How's the dialing in going Doug? You coming to the NOPI race in West Palm in June?

no ST Louis either...... to far and we didnt sell but $290.00 there last year. PROSTAR needs to cancell that event.....with the price of gas and fuel I know of alot of teams that are not going. INDY will be the next Prostar race for me. ALot of us asked Prostar to kill the St. Louis event and run it at G-VIlle at the end of the season.....they said no..so we will see how many go.
Thats a $625.00 fuel bill alone...not to mention the food ect ect

Hell Yeah! It's darn low!
At @ 180-210 deg. w/ Mobil 15w50 oil I'll get 7-10 psi at 1200 rpm.
I also get 10 psi every 1000 rpm untill 8000.

DANG that is low!!! What can be done to get more pressure at lower RPM's? What about a replacement pump?

that would be a idle of 4000rpm to get 20psi when hot

Scarry huh???
I CHECKED the the pressure on the 1361 I built...gauge goes on EVERY motor I build before they are started the 1st time
FREEKED me out on the dyno after it "warmed-up"!?!?!?
DEAN'S ZRX idles at about 1,700 when we run it on the dyno...

4k? I thought homeskillet said it went up 10psi for every 1k rpm.
If this is true..and at idle its only at say 8psi...how on earth does the masterlube even work on a 12?

the accumulator is used to prevent air gapping the pickup on accel and decel
I am looking into a big oil cooler for my zx12r
yeah..
kevin when you have cold oil you have GREAT oil pressure when these babys warm up the oil pressure will go down...you can even watch it on the gauges.

I realize what its used for...but if you open the valve while the motor is at idle...how will any oil go into the acumulator (or stay in there if its under pressure)....I would think that any significant amount of oil in there would be under more than 10psi.
Obviously its not practical to reach down at the line while revving up to 4k and open the valve right before launch

yup, exactly.
side note: I used to have a FBG vac pump on the crankcase, and turning on the pump at idle would make the oil light flicker. got rid of the vac pump...

I believe we have the source of the failed bearings.
What HP demand is needed to overcome 10psi oil pressure?
As I write this I am looking at Rac4it's avatar and wondering how many HP is being generated at that moment and has the oil pressure increased at the same instant that the forces on the crank have to launch like that??

I still get 35-40 psi at 4000 Hot. I keep my Oil Pump rotor in good condition and replace it when it gets any nicks. I was also VERY careful when I replaced my main crank bearings to insure that the rods were fed with good flow and pressure.
20 psi Hot at 4000??!! What kind of oil do you run?
Ra; What kind of HP do you think our 12's generate at "idle"? I don't see a "problem" with the idle oil pressures. In rac4it's pic, I'm sure his rpm's are up around 6000 or so. "Cavitation' would be at the top of my list!

The Busa has a high pressure oil valve and gear can't the 12 use something like the Busa's?

Good point there...is the really low oil pressure with some 0wt oil? does continuing to run 15/50 even in a track only bike vs a street bike cause that significant of an increase in pressure at low rpm?

I know...that's what got my attention on the dyno...it had great pressure before I even started the motor...
I ALWAYS "prime the pumps" before my motors are started
Bikes are "ready to ride" before the clutch baskets go in...prime pump/MOTOR with oil...throw in clutch...start motor for 1st time...
WITH instant OIL PRESSURE!!!
GOOD pressure when cool but...after warm-up???
YIKES!!!

Psycho, I don't really think idle is an issue. But after that and launching at thesame time seems to be the issue. It seems that the regular street bikes are not having issues. The guys with the stroker kits are mainly all racing.

would heavy 15/50 oil fair better than 10/40?
Only considering oil pressure when hot?

Steve Venables (UK) 7.7 sec ZX12R had ZERO oil pressure shutting down from runs for two seconds, he captured it on his datalogger and is using an oil accumalator to prevent damage.

That is why I am getting an oil accumulator. I have both of my two center wrist pins and pistons gaulded a lil. I hope I can cure that with the accumulator...
