Checked the inside diameter and it's not out of round.I'm going to replace the piston.SBM says to send an old one so he can match them up weightwise.Hopefully, someone is coming over this week to check the bearing end play.Still haven't a clue as to why I heard a ticking noise.

turns out to not be as bad as I thought.Piston can be saved and the cylinder is being sent out to be replated.Wrist pin was definately loose in the rod.I'm going to buy a new set of rods along with new rings.Ya know I'm going to have to look back in old posts to see who jinxed me saying, get your credit card ready.

The other pins feel loose in the top end, just not as much as #3.I respect your opinion JC,but for my own learning experience and others on board, why not use the piston? It was just scratched up on the side and 400 grit smoothed that out in 30 seconds. At this point ,I'm so close to saying screw it and buy a stroker crank for it also.I bought falicon rods from Schnitz and got them for $700.They didn't update their web page so they're more expensive now.I only have to figure out what size bearings go in the crank end.

Well, the case is split and I'm sitting here looking at the crank.I need to buy new bearing inserts for the rods and want to make sure I get it right. All the rods have a circle imprinted on it and 2 of the crank weights have O stamped on them,so that means I have to get 2 black and 2 blue inserts, correct? While the crank is out, should I have anything done to it?Balanced or any mods to the oil ports?I'm having fun on this except for the stiff back.

I bought a set of falicon rods and will need new inserts. The old bearings were in great shape at 20,000 miles.I'm even teasing myself with the thought of a 4.6mm stroke increase.I keep hearing this voice say,it's already apart andI have the opertunity.

If you go with the stroker crank and the falicon rods you will have to machine your starter gear. Just a heads up.

I'm going to do it.Ihad the crank sent off to falicon to be restroked and am going to try to build a 1426.Can I get any input on the oil tube that goes through the casing and cylinder,is that long enough?I talked with Dave at Falicon, and he said they machine their rod ends to the middle insert (black I think)spec. He said to expect about a week turn around. You know,I forgot how much I enjoy working on bikes.

Harry's looked very good though.
make sure you have them balance it!!!! DO NOT let them try and talk you out of it like they did me!!!! I got 500 miles and 3 passes out of my falicon job....was not very happy...

I'm going thru Freddie Klies and he said they would do all that but I'll ask about the nitrite.I also bought a Muzzy counter balance removal shaft and a manual cam chain adjuster. What is the thread size for the head bolts? When building air compressors,I like to put a couple dummy studs in to hold the gasket in place.I figure with the 2 base gaskets and a spacer plate,It would be helpful to keep the gaskets from getting pinched.I looked at the head today and saw this lip on the intake where the boot mates.Whats up with that?It was recommended that I use Yamabond#4 on the casings but I see in a post ,JC thumbed his nose at it.Whats everyone using?

Well, the crank should be coming back soon.Falicon says they don't nitrite their journals but it should be balanced. I tried to do a search on starter gears, but the search funtion doesn't work for me.Does anyone have a picture of the starter gear cut down for rod bolt clearance so I can show the machinist?

I put the new valve springs in today.Alot of fun those keepers are.I finally figured out a pair of needle nose pliers helps along with my o-ring pick.I'm wondering what a port and polish job would cost.

that crank would never go in to a motor I build period. trust me you want nitrite this is why I stated you might want another crank shop

If they are one piece rods they definitely aren't for a ZX12R.

My oh my,are those tolerances close.I couldn't even see the joint on the rods until I put it in a vice(with stock on each side)and tried to wiggle them.Todays goal is to gap the rings and start weighing everything for match ups.

Post whoring again.Rods are all 412 g.(stock 418).I set the ring gaps at .017 and .019 using JE's formula.(3.425 x .0050=.017125) and(3.425 x .0055 =.0188375) I etched the piston head with a dremel which cylinder measurements were taken off of after installing rings. Joking of course, scripto pen.I also measured inside diameter of rod bearings and penned that on each rod to match journals better if I have to .Muzzy counter balance plug installed.Don't want to bore anyone with the details, but I figure not alot else is being written on this board.Hopefully if I mess up ,someone will catch it before I go to far.
