ECU Mod
Besides $200 and the cost of remapping, are there any other reasons not to do this mod?
The mod allows a ZX12 to rev another 560 rpm...This allows you to rev
heigher during gear changes...thus keeping the bike in its best power. It will
lean out the air/fuel about 5%...you can add fuel to the PC map....or remap it for
best performance.
Thanks,

Thanks Mike... seems like iit may be a bit of extra trouble for not...
New ignition advance module for the PC USB offers ignition advance and a few more features...
from DJ's website:
quote: "In addition, it features 'Rev E-tend'. The rev limit of the engine can now be increased without the need to make any modifications to the bikes' ECU."

yea the mod really is just to increase the rev limit by 500 or so. it helps keep the on edge people out of limiter and bouncing valves....

I wouldn't recommend this mod to any of my customers unless they didn't mind shortening the lifespan of their engine. I doubt there are a lot of 12s out their that really need to buzzed that high. I'm not sure I buy the valve float/rpm limiter problem. Just my opinion, of course.

I can tell you it makes a difference...even on my stocker
Dont see how this could damage the engine unless you bounced off the limited at 12,200rpms for an extended period of time..weakening the valve springs.

i don't know why it is bad, but hitting the limiter seems to be linked with bad ju-ju on my motor.
with the modded ecu I will set my shift light at 11.4 or so.

Then why not raise it 13K? Or 14? The point I'm getting at is anytime you sling a larger, more powerful than stock motor much more rpm, you can expect a shorter engine life. Unless your cam timing is optimized for it, you're really not benefitting much either. Yeah I know Muzzy spun theirs to 14 grand but that motor didn't have to live long and most people here would like their motors to last almost indefinitely

Maybe the ECU mod he doesn't isn't able to raise the redline any higher. That would be my first guess..

yep you are limited as to how high you can go,different ecu different limit.
example the old 16 bit busas 800 rpm the 32 bit 600 rpm.
this is why I said in the other post about it depends on how they are doing it ,it might not work with other compoets.

You're correct Ken.. but I figured for $200 its not a bad thing to have a few more RPMs.
I havent got back to Kevin's dyno to see if this is beneficial yet. I can tell you from "riding" the bike that it does make a little difference.
I do have baseline #s before the mod and this is just Step 1 in a series of steps I will be taking real soon. Just havent finished the experiment. Been raining abunch and Ive been working even more.

It works...
I ran Steve's ZX12 today on the dyno...
Even @ 12,200+ there is NO drop in HP yet...
STOCK motors can use it IMHO

Received my ECM last Friday. It works great. I mathematically added 5% gas w/my PCiiir, and my bike actually seems faster, and smoother. BTW, It took a week by UPS to get back there, and only a day to be back on my doorstep by US postal "Snail Mail". The shipping costs were the same. Go figure. Anyway, I 'm a happy camper just wondering how much faster I'll be able to go in 6th gear. The calculator says another 10 mph or so My stock 12 & 168 rwhp did a verified 194 mph @ the rev limiter. My stroker with 212 rwhp should be faster.....

Hey TB, did you do a 5% mapping increase across the board, or is that 2nd dyno session just from plugging it into place? Shame the A/F isn't on that graph!

No BA.. I just plugged mine in and went about my business. No PC or fuel controller on the bike right now and it has a Akrapovic pipe.
A/F was kinda flat and looked good overall. Bike was no where close to lean at all...even in the extended area...matter of fact it was abit rich.
Dean has been riding it and has gone ~145mph in the 1/4 short shifting the bike. Once I get some time I will try to make some more passes on the bike.
