ah ok sorry bout the mix-up

My zx9 is the older 94 model only made 165Hp at 8lbs of boost. we had lowered the compression too much plus I think the cam timing was off from using 2 base gaskets plus a thicker head gasket to get the compression down.. It was set at 9-1. Also it was running real rich. this was back in 1998 or 1999 when I did it so the use of the a/f meter wasnt as prevalent then as now. had alot of problems blowing thru the stock CV carbs too the intake plenum design had alot to do with the carb problems. Christer actually helped me quite a bit with that. After over 100 pulls on the dyno I finally got tired of fucking with it and buttoned it up.
Knowing what I know now I may just go ahead a redo the turbo system on it with a better turbo and us flatslides this time instead of the stock CV carbs.
I have a ZX12 and a ZX10 now so the ZX9 has been neglected for awhile. I blew a head gasket ( you really shouldnt o-ring a liquid cooled motor) and have been too busy to fuck with it.

Kevin
How reliable are the zxr1100/1200 engines @ 9-10 psi?? Have you upgraded the rods/pistons? I'd love to build one of these provided it could be reliable on the street.

Kevin's not online much these days. His motor is stock, got lots of miles, runs like a top.

Dean's right...VERY busy at work (still here now)...
Also recovering from a ZX12R "get-off ...

My bike is UNREAL reliable...
Pump Gas zero-to-120mph 1/8 mile...low 6-sec runs (SLOW 60FTs) thats after RIDE-ING IT TO THE TRACK!!!
Won 4 out of 5 weeks (second place at the one I didn't win)...
Then rode it back to the shop...
17,000 miles in the last year...

Change the oil...put gas in it...and RIDE...What more could I ask for???
I have also run it to 14PSI with timing out and race-gas ...
It's been 125mph in the 1/8 and 153mph in the 1/4 with that boost...NO problems...
Well...it has blown the plenum off of the carbs a few times at the 14psi ...
Nothing but the rubber sleeves and hose clamps holding the plenum on the carbs...so-far ...
It also has Lock-up Clutch so it finaly got it's 1st Clutch Plate replacement a few weeks ago...

Great feedback Kevin....just what I was looking for. I have another question; Is there any particular reason why you chose the turbotec kit over the mrturbo kit? Also, how difficult would you rate the installation of this kit?

I remember talking to you at cycle accessories on Blanding several years ago (back in 2002 I believe), and heard you talking about a turbo zrx (if I remember correctly) blowing the engine. Was this the same bike that you have now???

I am the 2nd owner of bike...1st owner installed the TurboTek kit himself @ 100 miles old...EKK!!!
I ran it on the dyno for him and jetted it (as best I could with F-ed up set-up Turbo tec sold him)...
It was jetted "safe" so I don't know how/why but at less than 400 miles he melted a piston...
We ordered him custom made JE pistons...he changed his mind...didn't want to wait the 6-weeks...HE ordered Stock Parts (piston all new rings, CylinderBlock [one hole was scored] and gaskets)...he got even ant-z-er...and traded the bike to SM2W where I work for a Pristeeen GSXR 1000 we had...
I already wanted a Rex BADLY so I bought it from the shop (will be paid off in Nov ) AS IS with ALL the parts included...
I installed HD Valve Springs, New Block...YADA yada...the rest is history accept that it took me over 200 runs on the dyno trying to sort out what CAN'T be sorted out with the Jetting issue the way the Kit came...
Thank's to RZ350 on the ZRXOA Board turning me on to a Diff. way to pressurize the Carb Bowls...I ended up with VERY close to ALL STOCK parts back in the carbs and the bike could NOT be any more "ride-rrr FRIENDLY than it is!!!

AeroDyne doesn't make these turbo anymore...I think Sam (TurboTec) uses Garrets now???
I'm don't know what MrTurbo uses but I'm sure it's good...
I would not get TurboTecs kit...just because he swore he didn't have the "jetting issues" that I did...that's just not possible (I won't go into detail)...
He did howerver admit that the bikes had a "bit of a driveability issue"...HUGE UNDERSTATEMENT!!!

When ZRX Dean Finally let me change his BowlVents to the way I had mine??? HIS bike ran TOTLALY different also...even started and idled diff....
MUCH BETTER...
We've made over 300HP with his...he's been 8.40s @ 172+ MPH!!!
No matter what you decide...I can help you get it running "RIGHT"
