marchesini wheel impressions/test

Heres my two cents on marchesini forged aluminum wheels.
First, they only save about 7 pounds total over the stock wheels. Before anyone cries foul, both stock and marchesini wheels were weighed with all components (rotors, cushdrive, sprocket, tires). Needless to say i was bit aggrevated i was expecting a much greater loss in weight.
Second, it made a noticable improvement in handling. The bike turns in much easier. The bike feels quite a bit lighter. It also seems to break better but i don't have any scientific data to back up these statements.
Third, the main reason i bought them was to have some improved acceleration. A friend of mine has a hayabusa with some mods. More often then not we do roll on tests everytime one of us gets a new mod. I beat him by quite a bit but he's quite a bit heavier (245 vs. 215. However, we put our skinny friend on his bike 155-160 and he won by about two- two and half bike lengths. Hmmmm I says! We did roll ons from second gear up to 6th gear at 5k rpm's. We did at this rpm because my friend has an airbox mod done to his busa and has a hole in his powerband at that rpm. We did many roll ons to try to be as consistant as possible.
Next, I got the wheels put on and we did the same test from second gear up. This time he didn't pull as much initially maybe a half a bike vs a bike and a half before. I passed him about midway thru forth gear and pulled on him by about a bike and a half. Next we tried roll ons in third gear. By the time i was at the top of third gear the 12 would start pulling ahead of the busa. In the 6th gear the zx12 would really start pulling away. I also noticed an increased pull from about 9000 rpm's and up almost like a second powerband. My friends also confirmed this too!

In conclusion, if you've done all of your go fast mods, and in search for a little something extra, looking for bling, or your wallet is burning a whole in your pocket go for it.

Good info. How much was the aluminum compared to magnesium?

I bought my wheels from indysuperbike.com, according to there information the magnesium wheels are aproximately 2.5 lb's total (front/rear) lighter. I went with the forged aluminum because my bike mostly see's street use. They steered me away from magnesium for street use, but said it would have been great for drag and road racing. If had a race bike and money was no object i would have bought bst wheels.

The magnesium needs abit of "TLC" on the street.
Im suprised you only lost 7lbs. I remember the stock wheels weighing in at about 37lbs complete less tires
My RC Daytonas weighed in at 28lbs and the Talledegas weighed in at 26lbs.
