license

Wasd just told by New England Dragway that if
I break into the 9's,I'll need a license.I haven't done it yet,but with the 1320 in now,I'm sure it will.How do I get comfortable running 9's if they won't let me run it?Feels like a catch 22!

go to www.nhra.com and down load all the license forms, print them...Go to the track, find someone that has their sg, 9.90 or better mcy license, have them sign for you , then go to the track manager have him sign your 9 second passes and your done!!!

I had a guy with a car license sign mine, no biggie; he didn't even see the passes.

At Houston Raceway they were strict about doing license passes, and you have to do 'em in order: 2 slow ones, 2 med ones, then 2 sub 10 sec passes. You can take up to 6? mo to get all six passes.

Watch out, i have seen several folks who were clicking off 9's more or less regularly freeze when they had to run 2 sub tens... One guy never finished the license.

Well I guess the point was mute anyway as I never got past 10.17 today.1st pass I forgot to get on the paint and fought wheelies in several gears,2nd pass, numb nuts here forgot to turn the switch to air shifter.3rd pass I tried launching with both feet on the ground and never got them back on the pegs due to the elevation rises.I finally ran 1st gear with half throttle and then opened it up wot in 2nd where I was able to run a 10.17 and a 10.24. Man did that feel violent every time I shifted. Now I know what Alex from SBM was talking about when he asked how far I was extending the swingarm.

Freddie Klies was there with the sleds and gave me some good pointers on how I was lining up crooked plus had the bike tilted a little with one foot on the ground. He said he use to use a small stick on level to make sure the bike was straight,I'll have to try it.Also ,when I heat the tire to keep it under 8000 so the tire dosen't grow and only heat the center. Many thanx to the man as I doubt I would have picked any of that stuff up on my own.

Good to see you're still out there plugging away. Keep at it, man. You'll get into the 9's soon.

One quick piece of advice. (It took me a full season to learn this one.) I know that you're paranoid about not getting your foot on the peg in time for the first shift, but I suggest that you don't launch with one foot on the peg. It makes the bike unstable. When you launch, you're really balancing on the rear wheel only. Your legs are basically outriggers. If you pick up one and not the other, the bike leans in the opposite direction.

It's your choice whether or not to listen to me, but consciously picking up both of my feet at the same time made my launches much much more smooth. Even if you spin the rear tire, the bike will still go straight.

wannabe-I used to leave with both feet down until that nasty head shake,I was pulling on the handlebars to get my feet up.I also found that I would slide back alittle while rising my feet and that always brought on wheelies.I'm thinking about making a bracket to lower the foot pegs an inch and then I'll touch ground more with my feet still on the pegs

RAC4IT-I usually go to Lebanon Valley in New York because it's only 2hrs. away.I went up to New England Dragway for the 1st time Sunday because freddie said he would be up there and if I went ,he would watch a couple runs and give me some pointers.I jumped because I value his opinion.I have no illusions as to being great at this and am only in it for fun,but that dosen't mean I don't set goals to shoot for.

You need to sign up for a Jason Miller streetbike seminar at MIR. Ask CrotchRocket it's the best money spent. If you sign up, I will take a day off and come to the track and coach you all day until you're running strong 9.70s for certain by the end of the day. 8 hours of solid track time with only a few other guys, and a catored lunch, all for $100. You will get at least 30-40 passes.

I've heard of Jason Miller once before,I'll ask the Mrs.To be honest,I think the bike now is alittle past my capabilities and it wouldn't be a far stretch to tell my wife it's for my own safety.30-40 passes in 8hrs,I thought we needed 1/2hr min. to allow the clutches to cool?I appreciate the offer Bergie,I get this picture in my head of being wopped upside the helmet and hearing DBS-open the fucking throttle!
CrotchRocket Where do you stay while down there?I figure I would have to sleep over the night before.

If you needed an IHRA license, Jason could validate your runs that day for sure!!!

I would download the forms and take them to the track day (If you go). There may be some NHRA licensed guys there that can validate your passes.
