Kawasaki retakes World Land Speed Record!!

Slightly off topic I know....sorry.

Sam Wheeler has retaken the WLSR for Kawasaki with two runs of 330 and 334mph at Bonneville to average 332mph. His single engined streamliner has a single ZX11 turbo engine running on alcohol.

Way to go Sam!! Woohoo!!

You forgot to add that JoeA, went 246 on a 1989 ZX10 using a ZX12R fairing with "Under 1,000 CC"!! He is only a few MPH off the Bike record for open wheeled bikes. WHo said the Aero's on a 12 were bad? It is that scoop that takes the Aero's away!

hmm to me that' looks a lot more like a busa than a 12, curved beak like nose and big tail but still a great effort! Also I wonder how much of that bike is "production" under that skin and how much is pure fabrication.

At what point do you begin to call it home-made vs. an old-school ZX10?

My point is there absolutely no comparison to the bike that Yancy built, which is a street bike in street clothes with street manners yet it holds the record at 251 using "stock looking" bodywork and undoubtedly significantly less fab work.

Then again this is a 1000? Kewl!

I didn't forget, I already congratulated Joe elsewhere. His average was 240.4 which is incredible for a 1000cc engine....especially a 15 year old one!

Sam's achievement is special, because he has set the record with very little power and concentrated on aerodynamics. The bike is only 1109cc, barely bigger than Joe's, but 80mph faster. Can anyone remember the last time a single-engined bike held the WLSR? I can't, not without looking it up. It has been done by dropping the drag coefficient to 0.103. Most bikes are about 0.38, no matter what their shape. The best part, for me, is not that he beat the existing record held by the twin nitro-Harley engined Easyriders bike, but that he beat the previous Kawasaki record, set by the master speed merchant Don Vesco over 25 years ago at 318mph. That was a great record, and it's a great achievement to eclipse it with pure engineering rather than outright power.

Vince Hill went off on me on a board for saying that. I thought it was a Busa at first glance...

Oh well, it DOES look more like a busa than a 12R. Sorry if that upsets anyone.
