hmmm, i never thought about that.....i would have to take a block to my machinist and ask him. those center walls are pretty thin.... is your bike already a 1270 or something? Im SURE someone would trade you a mint stock cyl and some cash for your pistons and block.

no...its a stock motor at this point...I just got a killer deal on a 1270kit with some nice pistons I couldnt pass up.

I would put in a set of MTC Turbo Pistons with dished domes and at 10.5 to 1 compression with a .060 Base spacer and in the low 9 to 1 with an .080 spacer and sell the kit to off set the price of the pistons and use a stock Kawasaki Head gasket that has smooth insides and 2 sealing rings.

perhaps sterbator or blew will want the 1270 kit...thatll make selling it easier.

Using the MTC Pistons is a better idea for one reason if no other, The 1270 Kit was "NOT" Made for turbo and you will have to use at least 0.100 base gasket which will ruing your Squish Band and second, the tops of the pistons are .060 THINNER which will make losing a piston and easy thing to do. OR I could get you a set of my design pistons and use an 0.080 base spacer for about 10 to 1 ratio?

get off the MTC pistons. John at JE will get you some bad ass ones. I had 9to 1s in a zx12 turbo I built, no spacer needed. Call john noonan at JE and he will set you up right. He is the man. Keep stock bore, please trust me on this....

id be willing to bet the two pistons are so similar as to be hard to differentiate them from each other if they were sitting together.
What are the specs on each? gotta be some rather insane pistons to drop the CR that much no?
is there a cost difference?

If you got 2 spacers, it is to lower the compression of a High compression Piston. This Time RedHead you are not giving him good information in regard to NO Base Spacer. Yes you can get Pistons that are 9 to 1 with no spacer that will work. But to work well and be 100% dependable, you need between .040 and .060 "THICKER) dome which will increase the height of the piston by that much and to keep the same squish band you need the same thickness spacer. This piston is .060 thicker and uses a .060 spacer to get 11.65 Compression Ratio.

You want the ring lands thicker and you do not want the top ring much lowen than .250 from the piston top or closer than .200 or farther than .300 from the top of the piston.
Yes John can hook you up, but you need to know what you want first. MTC Makes the Dished piston that is right on the money to begin with and in Florida where you are!
Brian, I have done a "LOT" of research into Pistons before I started my projectand got the advice from a lot of people. I found that some wanted to sell me what they had and make it work. Others wanted to change my mind on how I did what I was doing. In the end, The MTC Pistons were Soley for Turbo's and JE Could make anything you wanted "Provided you know what you want"!
My Best advice to you is to call MTC and John Noonan at JE and just tell them what you are doing and see which way you feel more comfortable going! Which ever way, you will be using a Base Spacer the thickness of the increase in the dome Thickness! As it is already, the wrist Pin is mostly into the Oil Ring Groove!
2 Questions to ask is, How long a wait to get the pistons and #2, How Much! (After talking to them about what you want!) I do have the build sheet for my pistons if you want me to send you a copy of it and all you would need to do is have them make my exact piston but to a lower compression of 10 to 1 or as low as 8 to 1 depending on the amount of Boost you plan to run! Remember the lower the boost and Higher the compression ratio, the better the off Boost performance!

INCORRECT! You do NOT need a spacer to have 9 to 1 with a reliable piston. Ask Seb at NLR. Ask John Noonan himself. I promise. It is a sperical dished piston instead of a dome. You can use a flattop with a spacer and get 9 to 1 but you are using a much heavier piston also. Weigh what factors you want. But Ive made over 350+HP consistenly and reliably with those "crappy pistons" with no base spacer.

Waiting time isnt a concern at this point.
Wouldnt the dished piston be thinner than the stocker to make that much of a CR difference?

I talked to Kevin Cameron About piston weight and crankshaft bearing longevity. Here is what he said.
"As the crank throws the piston and rod up, the crank pushes up in the top of the bearing and leaves more space at the bottom of the bearing where extra oil Pools. This in turn acts like a Hydraulic dampener as the Piston tops out. When the piston tops out it leaves space now on top of the crank where the oil pools again and this acts like a Hydraulic dampener when the piston is now forced down by the explosion in the cylinder that is many times heavier than any piston could ever weigh now has the same hydraulic cushion!"
He said as long as you have oil pressure, this is how it works. The heavier Piston does take more force to accelerate it and stop it, but the increased stability of the piston dome at much higher temperatures is more than worth the trade off in longevity.
I take what he says very seriously because this is one person that really knows what he is talking about!

Ive made over 60 dyno pulls over 300rwhp with those pistons, and numerous track efforts. No headgasket probs, no piston probs, No probs whatsoever, except all this HP is making me do tons of chassis work....

I can appreciate the Chassis Work! .
I believe what you are saying, but what I am talking about leaves a lot of room for more power and longevity.
